I have been playing jazz (trumpet and saxophone) for many years but with the onset of tinnitus and moving to Spain to live I have decided to teach myself to play the piano.

Most of the teach yourself books are pretty tedious but I have got a new lease of life with the ABRSM Grade 1 piano pieces. Great tunes and arrangements. With perseverance I know I shall be able to play them all in due course. I have bought Charles Beale´s "Jazz piano from scratch" which is excellent but which seems to be aimed at the classical pianist who wants to play jazz. I am a jazzer who wants to play piano.

Still very much at the beginner level I am using Ena Mae Burnams "Dozen a day" exercises but wonder if anyone can recommend any other books that would help me develop as a jazz pianist. For example by developing my left hand with simple stride and boogie bass lines.

Incidentally, I am finding playing the heads of the grade 1 pieces more difficult than I expected. Does Grade 1 jazz equate to Grade 1 classical?
