Hello everyone. How important are piano stools? I just sit on an ordinary chair to practise but recently I have been told that a stool is necessary to get the right posture. Do I buy one? I don't have much room so I could do without extra furniture cluttering up the place but if it's really necessary......

As long as you're at the right height I suppose... The only thing I'd worry about would be the temptation to lean back into the chair.

Comfort is the important thing.
I have a bench seat with mine, but still need a cushion to get the correct height for me.

If what you do now isn't causing you any aches or pains, I guess it's OK.
If you spend eight hours a day practising, then your posture become much more important.

Get someone to help you check whether your forearms are more or less parallel with the floor.

As long as they are, your height is about right.
