Cellists I know tend to use Jargar on the A and D and Dominants on the G and C, (which sort of contradicts a bit of what Liz says). I don't know, perhaps there is some sort of regional preference, just like there is in instrument set-up in the UK the US and parts of Europe.

The best to any one person is usually a mixture of personal preference and what suits the instrument. I guess as far as classification goes, strings by Larsen, Jargar and Pirastro are considered some of the best on the market.
