Hello forum friends!

I am very pleased to announce a series of recitals, given by forum members, in South East London, throughout 2008! I'll post the venue very soon, it's in Travelcard zone 2, near Bermondsey tube station (10 minutes walk), so has easy access.

This has been a project I've been working on for some while, and will showcase some of the amazing talent we have on the forum. smile.gif

The first recital will be on February 9th (a Saturday evening, all the recital dates will be Saturday evenings, start time 7:30pm, finished by 9:30pm with a half hour interval at about 8:15pm), and will feature katyjay.

Recital 1 : February 9th : katyjay (soprano)

Recital 2 : March 1st : andante_in_c (flute), barry-clari (clarinet)

Recital 3 : April 12th : nicki_flute (flute), maggiemay (organ)

Recital 4 : May 10th : Deborah, Carl (both clarinet)

Recital 5 : June 14th : meerkat (alto), jod (soprano)

Recital 6 : September 6th : Belle Epoque (carol*piano, katyjay, andante_in_c, piano, soprano and flute respectively)

Recital 7 : October 4th : The Clapham Omnibus : noisybassoonist, willobie, jo.clarinet, andante_in_c, katyjay (recorders)

Recital 8 : November 1st : The Carousel Clarinet Quartet : barry-clari, jo.clarinet, Deborah, Carl

For ticket details click here.

I am really looking forward to hosting these recitals, please, when the dates are announced, try to support as many of them as you can. smile.gif

Best wishes,

b-c.

Well done, Barry. Sounds excellent! smile.gif

I'll gradually update the first post on this thread with more details. When I've updated it, I'll leave a new post on the thread stating what's been changed. smile.gif
barry-clari
Am about to update the thread with a few more details about the recitals. smile.gif

edit: done

Would you like to fill one of the TBA slots? Each recital slot lasts for 45 minutes, so you can either have the 45 minutes left in June, or one or both of the 45 minute slots in September (see initial post for dates). Please bear in mind that although the venue is provided for you, you will have to find (and pay as necessary) any accompanist you may need, and also you won't get paid - they're charity concerts with proceeds going to the (rather pretty and historic) church. If you are interested, either PM me or use my email button (it's enabled) and let me know by December 2nd please. Many thanks!

Have made a small change to the initial post : putting in the start/end times of the recitals...

...a reminder that there's three recital slots available for other grade 8 standard or higher forumites to fill (one 45 minute slot on June 14th, two on September 6th). I would like to get the local publicity printed and ready to distribute by December 9th, so if you can let me know if you'd like a slot by December 2nd, I'd be grateful, as that'd give me a week to design the posters - many thanks! smile.gif

The June 14th slot has gone! smile.gif

Two slots of 45 minutes each on the recital for the evening of September 6th to fill, if you'd like one of them, PM or email me. smile.gif
barry-clari
One of the September 6th slots has now also been taken (thank you Aotearoa! smile.gif ).

This means there is now just one 45 minute slot remaining. If you want to take it, let me know as soon as you can please! smile.gif
barry-clari
Aotearoa has offered to fill the last slot with her clarinet quartet, which I've accepted. smile.gif

So we have a full programme : and many, many thanks to andante_in_c, katyjay, meerkat, Deborah, Carl, noisybassoonist, willobie, jo.clarinet, Aotearoa, maggiemay, nicki_flute and jod for offering their talents to the recitals : I'm sure you'll all play/sing wonderfully smile.gif .

Ticket details to come, I'll post a more detailed address than '10 minutes walk from Bermondsey tube' when the ticket details are published. smile.gif

Wow that's quite something, a whole recital series!!

Will hopefully make it down for some of them!
nicki_flute
Not quite sure about the talent bit in my case! But there you go..
jod
I'm really looking forward to my slot. Yet again I haven't made it easy for myself, a lot I've done before, and of the others there's some exciting bits that I felt I could put in as I was doing 45 mins rather than 90.

I will feel much more confident when I can get back to swimming and do some real stamina practice!

I just feel so unfit at the moment and thats really affecting my singing. still plenty of time to sort that out!

I've almost possibly maybe nearly decided what I'm playing in mine. Now for the difficult decision - what to wear.

Hope this goes really well for everyone - as many of you know, I had hoped to possibly play or at least accompany some of these recitals, but it looks like it won't be possible due to health problems sad.gif
Good luck to all of you! biggrin.gif

Carol that is a pity. Mine falls on hubby and my wedding anniversary. Things are definately on the way up now, so this is the incentive to get back to top form. Its a pity you're not going to be quite so fortunate. Been there done that got the t-shirt... what did they make it from as its not very comfortable?

PM me if you want to talk about if some more.

Arghhh all the slots gone! Good luck to everyone else preparing for their recitals, I may pop in to watch!

There's a direct bus from the Victoria 'Stelios Special' to the recital venue... smile.gif

Thank you for the good wishes Carol smile.gif

I'm not really thinking so much about what to wear - I'm more concerned about practising my 'here are the fire exits, in case of emergency, and tea and biscuits will be served in the kitchen' speech I'm doing at each recital! biggrin.gif
jod
As none of you have seen any of my concert dresses, what will I wear isn't an issue. I'll pick the one most appropriate to the programme and that actually fits me on the day! If necessary I'll just have the right one taken in a bit!

First few tickets have been sold. smile.gif

I await an avalanche of forms from December 27th onwards biggrin.gif
barry-clari
Just over a month before katyjay's recital, if you want tickets for this recital, please, if at all possible, let me have the forms by February 1st, so the tickets can be sent to you in good time. Address to send forms to (the PO Box) is on the application form on the website (see first post on the thread).

Thank you! smile.gif

Have just had a look for LU engineering works for the first couple of recitals (inspired by the MH engineering works), people may wish to note there is no service on the Northern Line City branch on either February 9th or March 1st (ie via London Bridge). The Charing Cross branch of the Northern Line, and the Jubilee line will run as normal (so Bermondsey station will have a normal Saturday service).

Accommodation wouldn't be a problem - the west coast mainline is a whole different issue! smile.gif
barry-clari
The major promotional push for these recitals will begin on Monday - I'll be heavily postering the local area then, and talking to other local organisations. smile.gif

Barry - will it be possible to purchase tickets on the door?

Since the location's convenient for me there's a good chance I'll be able to make several of these, but specifying in advance which Saturday evenings are likely to be free is more of a problem.

I'm sure I will do - Feb 9th I can't though unfortunately, just arranged to go to a gig at an even more convenient location featuring a group of five jazz saxophonists - so apologies to katyjay, but I'm afraid this one just edged ahead.
katyjay
Well, Barry-Clari and I made an extensive visit to the church today. It's a beautiful building, with a superb accoustic. It's going to be a lovely place to perform in, and to hear others perform.

Is it the one which used to have a beautiful vista and now some planning numpties have allowed a load of 6-floor flats to be built right outside?
katyjay
Don't recall any such flats. But then I was rather focused on my A-Z to find the church to start with, rather than looking at the buildings round it.
andante_in_c
That sounds great. (The church, not the flats.) I'm really looking forward to seeing the building, and even more to hearing katyjay's recital on the 9th February. Although that'll mean it's only three weeks until 1st March. ph34r.gif

I've sold a few tickets - but would like more forumites in particular to see if they can come along to some of the recitals, to support their forum friends: I haven't had much in the way of forumite ticket applications yet. Tickets will be available on the door. smile.gif

Actually I am very supportive, but as anyone can tell you who knows me well, I can't resist the gag at the end of the sincerity. It's just my way!
