What time are we (the players) meeting? I think we did sort it out at our last rehearsal, but I've forgotten! blush.gif
katyjay
We should have access from 4.45 or thereabouts.
Cyrilla
Sorry I can't be on the Clapham Omnibus tomorrow - I hope all goes well - I'm sure it will be tremendous!!

That's the time I've asked for - I'll be around at approximately that sort of time. smile.gif

Just a reminder again, folks. It's this evening, 7.30 pm. Details in my earlier post.

Hope it goes well. Unfortunately can't be in London this weekend - Harvest services tomorrow! hides.gif

Thank you for your good wishes noodle. smile.gif Will you be around for the last gig in the series (clarinets on 1/11)?
barry-clari
The recital was very good. Recorders worked really well in that church! biggrin.gif

I'd like to thank all the performers, who played beautifully! I liked the Planets' Feet, and the Challinger jazzy piece you played at the end (the title of which escapes me at the moment...)

The 8th and final recital this year will be the Carousel Clarinet Quartet (that's me, jo.clarinet, Carl and Deborah) on the 1st November, same time (7:30pm), same place (St. Mary's Rotherhithe).

Do come along if you can! smile.gif
Cyrilla
Glad it went well.

Planets' Feet?????

blink.gif
katyjay
Yes, Cyrilla, we played two movements from Lance Eccles's work "The Planets' Feet" - Venus's Silk Stockings and (I'll get in trouble for mentioning this one now....) the Boots of Mars.

(The reason I'll get in trouble is that the aforementioned work is incredibly catchy and it gets stuck in your brain for ages after someone mentions it. I was told not to do that again.....)

Barry, the Challinger work is "Ballad, Blues and Riffs"

It was a great evening - nice to see so many people in the audience, and to be able show some newcomers to the idea that a recorder is not just a "nasty little squeaky thing"

For me, it was such a pleasure to perform my first recorder recital in the company of such fantastic musicians biggrin.gif
Cyrilla
Aww...it sounds a great event!

And, as you say, it's wonderful to show people what the recorder can REALLY do!

Hmm...never heard of Lance Eccles (what a wonderful name laugh.gif ) but his piece certainly sounds 'interesting'!!

*goes to investigate*

Thanks, Barry, for giving us this opportunity to perform - it was really good fun! smile.gif

Only got home this evening after experiencing everything that TfL could throw at us - and the rain!

Thanks for organising the concerts Barry and I hope the audience enjoyed the concert as much as I think we did!

No problem - thoroughly enjoyed hearing you smile.gif

I'm belatedly adding my thanks: to Barry, for getting this series off the ground, and to my 'partners in crime' on Saturday, for making the experience so enjoyable. smile.gif

I was pleased that the recorder world came up to scratch and provided a decent-sized audience. It was a shame that the Forums contingent were unable to make this particular recital, as I'm sure you would have enjoyed yourselves as much as we did. smile.gif

Sorry I couldn't make it sad.gif I'd been looking forward to it since it was announced, it was in all my calendars.
Since we came back from holiday, my husband worked 13 consecutive days, the last of which was Saturday. So (a) I kind of wanted to be home to see him, for a change; and (b) he couldn't come with me to escort me around London (as he wasn't home early enough), and at the moment London on my own is a bit of a challenge.
So it's all my husband's fault wink.gif

I'm glad you all had a good time though biggrin.gif

I'm sure we would.

Unfortunately we had a big family event this weekend (an ordination) and it was not possible.

I'm sorry again that I couldn't be there - especially for recorders! As Barry knows, it is very rare that I can make a Saturday evening - I have already made a general apology to him.

This week I didn't finish teaching until 7pm...

so sad that I have now taken up employment at weekends and thus can't come to any recitals this year.

I was hoping to make at least one. Never mind.

That's a pity sad.gif

A fairly late in the day reminder that the last recital of this year is this Saturday, featuring jo.clarinet, Carl, Deborah and I as the Carousel Clarinet Quartet. smile.gif

7:30pm, St. Mary's Rotherhithe.

What time are we meant to be there tomorrow? I'm juggling information for three impending recitals at the moment, and no longer seem to have the brain for differentiating between them..... tongue.gif

Sorry folks..at the moment it doesn't look as if I will making the journey to London this evening. sad.gif The weather is awful and as I said yesterday, it's effecting my back too. If things improve, I'll come up. If not, I really hope it goes well for you, and congratulations on another successful series of recitals..to Barry and all who took part! party1.gif

Hope you're feeling better soon, Amber xxx smile.gif

Thanks DC for the good wishes.

The weather is closing in here very rapidly, it's blowing a gale and absolutely chucking it down... sad.gif

Well, despite the appalling weather which kept the audience numbers well down, the recital was good, and well done to my fellow clarinettists - you did very well smile.gif

There will be a reprise of some of the pieces in this gig in Surrey on 4/1/09, for anyone who wants to come along. smile.gif

And now for 2009's events! I will be asking the mods to lock this thread very soon, so if you want to comment on the '08 series, get in fairly quickly smile.gif . In the meantime, thank you to everyone who played, helped and supported this recital series, it's all been very much appreciated.

So sorry I couldn't get to this one despite my best intentions. My father was taken into hospital in Portsmouth on Thursday, and my intention was to visit him yesterday afternoon and drive up the A3 to London. However, the appalling weather meant that conditions were atrocious and traffic was moving very slowly out of Portsmouth. I decided that it wasn't wise to continue, and drove slowly home instead. sad.gif

I'm glad the concert went well. smile.gif

And, as a P.S., a very big thank you to Barry for initiating this recital series. biggrin.gif
