Hi,
i've just started relearning the piano: i did the grades as a teenager, but didn't have a piano to play on once i left home (and my mother's very nice Bluthner parlor grand), untill now - just got a Kemble upright with a built in electric piano, so i can practice on headphones.
I say i did the grades, which is true, but i failled 7 and 8, so i'm keen to sort of finish the training by retaking them.
Anyway, enough background: my basic query is about the timing of the exams relative to the publication of the exam pieces: when abouts in 2008 are the exams for the currently publishes pieces, and when do the 2009 pieces get published? I guess i'm looking for as much time as possible to try learning some pieces, dither, change my mind, try some from a different grade etc.
Best wishes
Stephen

In Spring 2009 you can't mix pieces from the 2007/08 and 2009/10 syllabuses - you go for one set or the other. The scale and sightreading requirements will be changing from Spring 2009 too. The 2009/10 pieces will be out in early July 2008, though the Grade 8 list of pieces are published a little earlier.
Hope that helps!

Thanks,
spring 2009 seems a long way away: think it's time to try out some of the 2007/8 grade 7 pieces then : if i retry grade 7 and fail, no loss, but if i failed grade 6 that'd be a setback.
Just ordered the Bill Evans from the alternate list: always liked Bill Evans. When i was a teenager i would do the classical stuff: i enjoyed the earlier classics, but the modern classical music just seemed wiered. Time to try some modern jazz
