Full Version: What Am I Doing?!

I don't know if I've posted this in the right forum - please forgive me if not!

Last week my violin teacher asked if I'd like to go along to a strings concert by some primary school aged kids in December - of course I said yes!

Today, I find out there are going to be 200 of them blink.gif. They're playing a number of tunes - Postman Pat, Pirates of the Carribean, Rudolph...you probably get the picture. Also, I'm no longer going as a member of the audience. ph34r.gif What scared me most was the phrase '...all hands on deck to tune 200+ little string players...'

I don't think there's really anything I wanted to ask in this post, just a slight 'Eek! What am I doing?!' moment!

Now why would you get yourself into a thing like that? rolleyes.gif

Sounds fun - but you do realise you'll get Postman Pat or something in your head and go round singing it for weeks! laugh.gif ph34r.gif

Good luck. biggrin.gif

I remember going to days like this when I was in primary school and I loved them. The first time I went I had only been playing for about three months so I can't have played many notes but I do remember that I thought we sounded really good.

I was very disappointed a few years ago when my mother said "Do you remember those awful string days you used to go to and the awful concerts you used to give at the end with all those screeching out of tune violins?"

So, even if you don't quite know what you're letting yourself in for, just remember that you are helping the children to do something that they will remember all their lives.

I hadn't thought of it like that. I didn't start playing the violin until I had very nearly left primary school and so have never been to anything like this!

Only four days to go, and I'm surprisingly excited about it! Apparently I'm going to be sitting amidst (if that's a word!) the first violins. party1.gif

I hope they all have fine tuners...

And that they can play open strings as you ask them to, then you can twiddle the tuners for them!

Hey, how was it?
Miss Ross
It went really well, thanks! I was quite surprised at how nice a sound they made, considering there were so many of them (over 250 at the last count blink.gif), and the audience seemed suitably impressed. I'd definitely do it again, if only to see them all glowing with pride at the end. smile.gif
