I'm still looking around to buy an acoustic piano although I've started to narrow it down and the Yahama U1 is one of my contenders.
Can anyone tell me if the latest new U1's are still made in Japan?

My seven year old U1 was made in Japan.

Hi,

I bought a new Y1 in September from Chappell and it was made in Japan. I have to say I'm incedibly impressed, its one of the nicest pianos I've ever played on.

If you're interested in buying a Yamaha upright, there's a place in Burton on Trent (forgotten the name) that does reconditioned ones, and they are really good. They usually have a variety, we went to try out some different U pianos, and were so impressed, we came away with a G5. I know, a bit radical, but you have to see and hear them to believe them.

(PS, no I'm not on commission!)
