laugh.gif Hello all,

Hmmmm Hannon is definately a book of goodie, and it is acutally appealing to kids (e.g. playing no.1 fast all the way up the keyboard).

It seems to have an exercise for every problem (well.. finger technical problems) such as strengthing the weaker 4th & 5th fingers.

Now, the question, when is it right to introduce Hannon to young students?

I've tried giving them just one octave of no. 1. Had no problem with the practice but many of them love the 'coolness' too much that they rush it - which floppy fingers, inwardly crooked 3rd finger joints, awkward wrist movements etc the list goes on. Absolute horror. Tried it on 7-9 yo, who i know, could do it properly - but just won't.

How could proper playing be encouraged? and what is the best age to introduce Hannon? (could start with 1 octave exercises.)

Thanks
sbhoa
I would go on playing level rather than age.
I use A Dozen a Day for technical excercises first.
