I have a few problems with the aformentioned programme, and I have to have this composition handed in by Thursday... so...

1) How do I insert a tempo marking?

2) How do I change one bar to 2/4 time without making the rest of the piece go funny (there are a lot of notes after the bar I wish to change, and it keeps knocking them all out of sync if I change the time signature).

If someone could point me in the right direction, I would be very happy!!

Thanks party1.gif

Hi. I read this earlier but forgot to add a reply. There is a very useful Help section on finale but I expect that you have tried that and shouted and sworn at that already.
You can change a key signature by just clicking on the key signature box fourth along from the left on the toolbar. I would delete the notes in the bar that you want to alter, add the new time sig, add the time sig to the following bar for the return of the old time sig and then redraw the missing notes. That should not cause any of the next ones to alter. You can add a tempo mark by using the text tool, marked with an A on the toolbar.

Can I borrow the thread for a minute and ask how you add grace notes?

Easy! Add the note as a normal note first of all, then click on the speedy entry tool. The editing box will show. When it does click on the note that you want to turn into a grace note and press G.

If you just want to add a tempo marking to your score it's easy - just go into the expression box - the one marked mf - highlight the appropriate bar and click on 'create'. You can then type in any direction you want.

If you actually want the music to play back at the correct speed I think it's more complicated...

Hope this helps

That is very easy too. If you go to the expression box marked mf and then hit create you can add any tempo indication that you want. If you then click on quarter note you can add a suitable metronome speed too.
