Well there's a poll about Violinists, and Cellists are just better tongue.gif hehe, whos your favourite Cellist of the 20th Century?
For me I'd have to go with either Du Pré or Gendron

I love the cello - I was hoping to learn to play it one day but last year there was only a violin I could get my hands on quickly and I fell in love with that straight away.

I still think the cello is lovely and if my tiny cottage had room to put one (the back of the sofa is full of violin stuff!) I think I would still go ahead.... well maybe one day.

I've voted for Natalie Clien because I do think her playing is sublime. I suppose I should have voted for 'bigger' names like Du Pre or Rostrapovitch but I don't know their playing as well and I do really like Natalie Clien's sound.

Actually my favourite is not on the list - his name is Andrew something and he played the Elgar Cello concerto on a television programme I found on a tape recently. He was principle cello with possibly the BBC Scottish Symphony orchestra but is making his name as a soloist now. I think he may have played at the proms. I wish I could remember his name (*blush*) but he was FANTASTIC and I could have listened to him play all day (that's one way I judge - if the sound grates I can only manage 5 minutes.. examples are Nigel Kennedy and Kung Whan Chung on the violin..eaughhhh).

Sorry, back to cellos... they are lovely!

I voted for Natalie Clein, but would equally have voted for Du Pre.

I went for du Pre - who in my opinion is one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, let alone 'cellist...

YES!!! I think he's just brilliant! His 'Elgar' was mesmerising! (I'd got as far as 'Wilson' with the surname but was sure that still wasn't it - I'll remember Watkins now.... thank you!)

I really wish that we could get multiple options on the polls on here, because I couldn't find any way of creating the poll so that one can vote for more than one Cellist! I voted Du Pré but would have also put Gendron and Chang, because I think they're both fantastic!

From what I know about Cellist (Just started viola, compared to everyone one here) Mstislav Rostropovich is a good cellist.

There's one, a very great one, that hasn't been named: Daniil Shaffran.

Anyways, I voted for Casals smile.gif

Ah, I've heard of him actually! I should have put another option for "other" because there's loads of others, I just put in who I thought were the key Cellists of the previous/current century =)
