I've got 2 exams tomorrow
I've got grade 6 piano in the morning with ABRSM and then grade 5 singing in the afternoon with trinity. I only took up singing to help with my piano exams and now it's taking over. I feel more confident about my singing then my piano.
Only just learned the final piece for my piano exam.
Wasn't feeling too bad about them but now starting to feel nervous. I know I'll forget my scales in the piano exam again and sight reading will be terrible. Sight singing could be better.
It's probably a bad thing to do but I'm just aiming for a pass in the piano, hope I get a merit in the singing though.
Just venting
Thanks

If you think about it, at least you get them both over quicker!

Having them on the same day means you only have one lot of pre-exam nerves to deal with.
I had two AB exams on the same morning this term (with one other person's exam in between them to give me a short break) and it wasn't really any more stressful than taking just one. It's a pity you're doing yours with different boards - if they were both with the same one you could've chosen which order to do them, so you could've done singing first as you're more confident about it. On the other hand, at least once the piano is finished you can just relax and enjoy the singing.
Good luck!

Ok all done,
Piano was a nightmare, singing was a dream.
I played the pieces through fine in the practice room, which had a nice piano in it. But the exam piano, which was a steinway, felt totally different and a bit spongy. I should have done my scales first to get used to it but didn't think and did my pieces first. I stopped in the middle of the first piece as it was going so badly, but the examiner said he understood how different the piano was and just to carry on from where I felt comfortable. Second piece just had loads of errors in it. Third piece was good and when I said at least I'd played that one right the examiner said I'd played it great.
Sight reading was fine, I didn't talk all the way through it this time which is very good for me.
Aurals were ok.
Scales, hmmm, I did most ok but at one point my mind went blank when he asked me some minors, so then he said just play any minor you can remember.
So probably taking that one again.
Singing was a very nice exam, I just enjoyed it. I even joked with the accompanist that he'd played well and the examiner laughed. I think the accompanist was more nervous than me, though I kept forgetting some of my technical exercises right up until I did them properly in the exam. Everything seemed to go right and I hit the high notes fine and didn't dig the notes and got into the storytelling of the songs. She even said I gave very good answers to the musical knowledge questions.
By the way both examiners were fantastic, both were very friendly and did their best to put me at ease.
I'll let you know the results, not sure when they come out though.
Thanks for all the comments.

What do you talk about when sight reading? When my brother was learning how to drive, he gave a running commentary of everything that was happening within his field of vision. It was hilarious. Are you counting out loud? I find myself doing that when I'm learning syncopated sections of pieces.

I just sort of mumble along, things like 'thats right' 'oh got that one wrong' 'whats that' 'yea got that that one''wheres that' and some nervous laughter. On my last lesson before the exam, when I was doing some sight reading, I found I was sticking my tongue out as well and I've never done that before.
My driving instructor said he always knew when I'd done something wrong because I laughed.
I think I just vocalise the constant chatter going on in my head. My teacher always tells me to be quiet as I seem to do better when I'm not talking.
I think I'm just a bit freaky, must be to do piano exams.

I've passed my singing
Got 83 out of 100, 87 would have been a distinction but it's a good merit so I'm quite happy with that and got some really nice comments from the examiner.
My teacher was looking at what to do now, and possibly grade 8 but I think we'll settle on grade 7 for now, and I can sing 'music of the night' for grade 7, which should be a nice show piece.
I know it's a trinity exam but the trinity forums are rubbish
Just waiting for the piano result now.

83/100 is an excellent mark and should be applauded. Don't worry about it being a TG exam speaking as a teacher I enter candidates for both. The've changed the certificates now black and Gold on Cream, they actually look quite special which is great!
As for doing the two exams on the same day. I see advantages in it. You can get yourself in "music exam mode" once and stay focused. Plus it is no worse that what we as a society expect of 16, 17 and 18 year olds when they have two GCSE, two A/S and two A2 papers to sit in one day. I certainly sat 2 University papers in one day, and did two performance exams in a day at that level. It was exam day, I was in exam mode.
Please let us all know how you did in your piano exam.
In the mean time
Congratulations.

I've done the 2 exams in one day, Grade 4 flute immediately followed by Grade 3 violin. Was not fun.
I know what you mean about A levels etc, a friend of mine had an exam clash on the day she was already doing 2 AS levels, she had to do all 3 on the same day. Harsh!

I can't believe it but I got the text message from my teacher, I've passed my grade 6 piano.
I was convinced I'd failed, only got 109 but it's still a pass. I haven't seen the mark sheet yet but I've been told I got 27 for my rumba toccata, and I passed on the scales and sight reading, which were my worries.
I am so happy, that I've even started looking at grade 7 pieces, and I must be in a funny mood because I can already play one of them.

Hi McMan, well done!! I know what thats like. Good old AB time-tabled both my grade 8 exams, not only the same day, but ONE AFTER THE OTHER! How bright was that?

I din't even get a gap between them and worse of all, it was an examiner I had before, and we definately didn't 'like' each other!

I still managed to pass both at least!
Fingers crossed for the piano results.
I'm preparing to take either the ALCM or LLCM if I can take the higher one!

well done on your exam! i did rumba tocata for my grade 6 as well, it's a great piece!
i had my grade 3 flute with TG at 9:00, then my grade 5 piano with ABRSM at 11:29, which was rather stressful, seeing as i had my school concert rehersal all day, then a concert in the evening, where i was playing flute with the orchestra, and with the flute group, accompanying the lower school choir, AND i was performing solo piano in the young musician of the year, which was in the first half! it was a very long day! i came second in the competition though, and got 84/100 for flute, and 117/150 for piano(i had a nasty examiner! i was very upset! but i got 131/150 for grade 6 piano, so in his face!!!lol)
Jacob.
