No matter what you think of his music, Stockhausen influenced the minds of many a 20th Century composer, young and old alike. I heard he died on Wednesday and it is a sad loss to contemporary composition. I just wanted to express this loss on the forum, so we can all share our thoughts on him.

I have never really appreciated his work but he was a musical "Great" , and of that there is little doubt. I really must try to get to know some more of his compositions.

I remain unconvinced about his 'greatness' - true he was innovative but the first man to go up a blind alley is not necessarily a genius, merely inquisitive....

I only just heard about his passing, he was a pioneer and influenced and wide range of musicians in all spheres of music.

It is possible to fool all of the people for a very short time but he remained at the top of the contemporary tree for far too long to make his works 4.33's. Perhaps music would have taken many different turns without his input.
