Who lives across the road - whoop! My first lesson is on 3rd Jan - I want to do some stuff in the meantime though; can anyone suggest any exercises please?

Ta!

Great! Good luck with your lessons - I've got a new teacher too and I can't wait to start up!

In terms of exercises, are you just starting flute, or have you already played before?

Ooh, I'm not too sure on beginners' exercises, which is alarming as I want to teach flute!
Sorry flute.gif
I do hope you enjoy your lessons!

Have fun! :-)
Flute's a really nice instrument.

Dunno about exercises - what I did in between getting my flute and having my first lesson was suss out how to get a note out of it, then use the fingering chart that came with it to find a couple of octaves of notes, then worked through Tune a Day Book 1.

Once I started lessons, my teacher gave me various exercises to improve tone quality and stuff. I'm sure your teacher will give you some and Jan 3rd isn't far away. So you can probably spend the intervening time just learning fingerings, maybe trying some scales and simple tunes and getting used to how to make the notes sound. When I first started there was a certain amount of ineffectual huffing, and it took a while before I could pick my flute up and just get a clean note out of it first attempt, without having to faff around trying to find the knack of it again.

Thanks guys - I can't wait for my first lesson! biggrin.gif

I've been practising a bit and I've got to the point where I can pick up the headjoint and get a note out straight away, and I've been trying to get the whole C major scale out although some notes seem harder than others! The lower notes seem more difficult although I seem to remember that being the case when I started clarinet so I guess that's common?

Anyway, will let you know how I get on! flute.gif

Yup, lower notes are hard, and then you start trying to get D2...

That note made me suffer SOOOOOO long...

Happy memories happy.gif

Good luck with the flute! As I've taught myself flute and still continue to get breathless doing so, I wouldn't really recommend my exercises or whatever they were!!! tongue.gif

Enjoy! biggrin.gif
