Hi,
One of my friends is starting the trumpet again after not playing for about 8 years. She keeps asking me what grade i think she's on, but i'm not really sure cos i don't play the trumpet (even though i want to).
The hardest song she can play is When the saints go marching in. i reckon it sounds about grade 1 or maybe not even that, but i didn't want to say anything in case i was wrong.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Verona. xx

Hi,
It depends on what notes she's able to play it on - starting on written low C (The one with a line through the middle of it) would be pre grade 1 - music medals level copper - the octave above would give enough range for grade 5
hope that helps

As a general rule C below the treble clef to D on the line is grade 1-2, up to the next F is grade 3-4, to the A/Bb 5-6 and higher 7-8. But there is more to trumpet playing than high notes. How quickly can she articulate notes? Does she make a nice sound? Can she transpose?? All come into play!
