Hello all,

Got my exam results today. I passed...just. I got 114... unsure.gif

I am disappointed, but not surprised considering the hoo hah I had with the "accompanist".

Never mind..a pass is a pass! smile.gif

That's a pretty respectable pass! Personally I ABSOLUTELY hated doing singing exams and never managed to do well in them for some reason (despite holding lots of choral scholarships, doing recording work etc etc).

Good for you to have that mark. Onwards and upwards!

Well done. biggrin.gif
The accompanist problem was rather bad wasn't it.

Well done! yay.gif I couldn't imagine ever doing a singing exam - it must be the scariest thing ever! blink.gif

114 is a pretty good mark (incidentally what I got for Grade 2 piano blink.gif) considering the accompanist problems! clap.gif

A pass is a pass is a pass DC

Given how dispondent you were sounding this is an excellent result.

This is the woman who took her grade 2 a term after her grade 1.

This is the woman who has the most appauling tinnitus but never say die

This is the woman who had the accompanist from h'ell and got through

... and still passed.

Give DC a bottle of Champagne. You deserve it my dear.

**My tutor has suggested jumping to Grade 5 next term...is this a good idea in view of this result?? He promises me faithfully he will accompany me for it...!** smile.gif

ohmy.gif When I saw the title of the thread I thought you must have failed and I was all set to commiserate!

It's a decent pass luvvy, and considering the "handicap" you had, it's an extremely good mark! I think congratulations are in order! woot.gif

Hmmm, Grade 5.... isn't Summertime a G5 piece??? rolleyes.gif tongue.gif

My tutor and I have worked hard since August preparing for this exam. Everything was going well, and we both knew what the other wanted in regards to singing/accompanying etc. Then he rings me last night to say he'd come down with 'flu and would not be well enough to accompany me ohmy.gif unsure.gif I say "This is a joke, right?" he says "No...no joke. I have found an accompanist for you though". "Great joy" I say.

Got there this morning...lady has music in a totally different key to that which I have been training to sing in. Oh...and she doesn't transpose!!! blink.gif I tried practicing in the key she had, but my voice was used to singing in another. In the end, I virtually sang unaccompanied with her playing a few chords here and there...and me having to pay her 12.00 too!! unsure.gif

I sang the best I could, but my confidence hit the floor like an out of control elevator...

Never mind eh? It's a learning curve I guess. "Carry on regardless" and all that...

Sorry to rant. Just have to wait for the results now.... mellow.gif

This is it, Bev smile.gif

More like next summer at the rate you're going! biggrin.gif

I must have been getting mixed up with another Gershwin which *is* grade 5 - Love Walked In, which is one of my favourite Gershwins. Anglesey? unsure.gif Let me know if you'd like a clarinet accompaniment! biggrin.gif

Well done DC - you did really well, 'specially considering the accompanist issue. party1.gif
Miss Ross
Well done DC! party1.gif I scored (much! blush.gif) less than that in my G1 violin exam, and that was with a strong accompanist.

Give yourself a break from exams for at least 3 terms then if you're ready to go for Grade 5 then go for it. I see no reason why not. Just spend a year enjoying your singing. You've got enough on your plate right now with your stepfather. There is no point in adding unecessarily to your stress levels.

Have some fun, consolidate then go for Grade 5. See if you can match my mark of 132. That's your challenge!

That's true, jod...but....

I have chosen my three songs already, as I have sung them in the past (school choir many years ago!!!).

1 Panis Angelicus (Sing along to on CDs!!)
2 I could Have Danced All Night (Sorry, skylark! wink.gif ) (Sung in choirs)
3 Simple Gifts (Sung in choirs)

Haven't chosen an unaccompanied yet. I may wait until the Summer session. Thanks for your advice. smile.gif

These sound good. Really balanced. May I suggest you look at a Spiritual as you trad song. "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" would go well with those.

Good luck, you know you've go me on your side.

I'm a supportive singing teacher who even if I'm not teaching them, supports any Adult who takes the plunge and takes singing exams.

DC well done ! I'm a bit slow catching up with this.
