Yes I am partly voiceless. And I don't like it!

About a month ago I got really sick and lot my voice. Then I got better again, and my voice came back. But sadly I got a bit sick again, and I lost a bit of my voice. Now I can't seem to get it back! I talk like normal, I sing fairly normal, but when I did my Piano exams and I had to do the singing oral, I had to ask the examiner to play a few keys down!! tongue.gif So I just wanted to know if you guys had any helpful hints. Because I am slowly trying to strech my voice back out (I would say I had a farily impressive range), without straining it. If I sing something too high I will get no sound, the same thing will happen if I jump from sertian sharps to others.

So what can I do!?! I am hoping to get this audtion (that I have on Saturday) right, so this music school will help me train. Because soon I want to do my vocal exams. So being trained might help, but has this happened to any of you? And if so, what did you do???

Sounds like it'll come back if it's rested.

If you get worried about it, always best to go to your doctor to get someone to look and see if there's any problem remaining from the illness, in the throat. I don't expect that however - but don't take risks, as it sounds as if it's really important to you.

If you have auditions, just sing the songs lower, and be honest and open about a recent illness that is clearing up, but some top range is missing.

Above all, be gentle with those missing notes - if they're forced too soon, it'll delay healing. The vocal cords can get locked up for a while under certain conditions, and you'll see it on websites too. Sometimes it's called "in spasm". Gentle, fairly quiet, but properly supported warming up will enable a full range, but when your voice is ready, take it just one note at a time until that note is working in a relaxed and sonorous way. A good website for lots of this and plenty of help is http://www.voicelesson.com/home.htm

I've taught some people with such difficulties, and I've seen lots of problems resolve.
