I'm hoping to to do Grade 4 and 5 jazz sax in sessions A and B. I'm also planning to do some of the clarinet and flute ones! They're great.

I might be going to do a low grade in jazz flute later in the year (probably 1 or 2). Hoping to do an ordinary flute exam in the spring but then there'll be a longish gap before I try the next one, so my teacher and I agreed that a jazz exam in between would be useful - broaden my horizons a little bit.

I've enjoyed taking students through the ABRSM Jazz programme but having given this some thought i think for 2008 i'll be exploring London College of Music Jazz exams purely because their programme goes from Grade 1 to Grade 8 and also includes a Jazz Diploma for students who have completed grades 1-8. As a teacher this offers me a broader scope of direction than the present ABRSM Jazz exams which only goes to grade 5.
However, the AB Jazz exams are good, well laid out and with a good variety of styles and backing tracks. Its possible by 2010 the AB may have the time and finances available to organise the remainder of the present jazz syllabus which will be very beneficial to all.

It's sooooo good to see more and more people getting interested in jazz

Fantastic! I will be doing grade 8 jazz piano with LCM in piano either in Feb/Mar or the summer session. I may attempt grade 3 jazz clarinet with the AB in the Feb/Mar session. We'll see how it goes!

I've always loved jazz, I guess thats why my first instrument was a saxophone! Such a pity how bewildered I was with the abrsm exams at the time, I was waiting for the jazz lessons to start, which never came !!
