Full Version: A Christmas Surprise...

Miss Ross
I thought the Adult Learners forum would be most apt for this post, so hope no-one minds my intrusion!

Ok, so it's Christmas Day. For the first time in my life we actually have a piano in our house, not that we own it but still - it's a piano. My brother and I are 'jamming' laugh.gif (me on piano, him on the drum kit) making an acceptable racket when my mum demands that I move from the piano stool. That's fair enough in itself - I thought she was fed up with the noise! blush.gif

No...she sits down, takes out the G2 AB piano book and starts to play 'Rigadoon' by Purcell, and it sounds really good. She finishes playing and walks off, without saying anything, leaving me standing there slightly open mouthed. My mum, as far as I was aware, hadn't so much as touched the piano since we moved here, infact, she claims not to have played in 20 years.

It's all lies though ph34r.gif tongue.gif. She's now told me that she's been teaching herself since November before my brother and I come in from school each afternoon. I'm so proud of her, and hearing her play was genuinely the best Christmas present I've ever received. wub.gif

Sorry, I just felt I had to share that with people who would perhaps understand how I feel, or at least wouldn't think I was completely insane! tongue.gif

Good on your Mum! Now I wish my Mum took piano or a musical instrument up. She really needs a hobby other than shopping to help relieve her stress levels! tongue.gif

Well, he's a budding percussionist really but just picked it up from my Grandfather when he was younger. If he would only decide to have some lessons...

That's really lovely, does she know how proud of her you are?

I get a real boost if my children compliment me on my playing and it would make my day (week, even year) if I knew they were proud of me. biggrin.gif
