Does anyone recognise the extract that the AB use in their "Specimen Aural Tests" grades 6-8, test 6C no. 4? I played it recently when running through the tests with a friend + thought it sounded lovely + I would like to learn the whole piece. I have the Impromptus + Moments Musicaux but it does not appear in them. For those who do not have the aural book the pice is in e minor + 6/8. Any suggestions?
Thanks

It's most likely from one of his sonatas.

Rats! The one aural test book which seems to have disappeared from my shelves.....

Does it have a tempo marking at all? I'll go and look through my sonatas........back later......

I haven't found anything in volumes 1 & 2 - but I don't have volume 3 so it may be in there...difficult without seeing it......

The tempo is Andante. It's annoying me now as well lol!
I had a wee search through the internet but couldn't find the extract

Thanks for your replies - my husband also searched the internet but drew a blank. It's my birthday this week + I was hoping to fond out what the music was so I could hint to my family that I would like it!
I e-mailed the Board directly so maybe they will come up with the answer.

Good idea!
I used that program that you can type the melody into, but no matches.
Let us know if you have any luck - it actually does sound quite nice

I have volume 3! will have a look and report back.
NB I 've not got the original that parkere mentioned (I looked in one only to find it was a different aural book) so anything I come up with will be a shot in the dark - still, worth a try.
(ed) no, there's nothing in E minor 6/8 in book 3 of the sonatas.

I think it's the introduction to a song. (Not a very well known one, obviously.)

Well done AB! - they replied to my e-mail.
For those of you who are interested the extract is from Schubert's Sonata in E, D157. I will now rush out to buy it.

I have complete Schubert Sonatas, including some little known unfinished ones. But I havent played that on before. I will have a play of it tonight , and let you know tomorrow.
My favourite slow Schubert Sonata movment is in his last Piano Sonata in B flat D960.

Further to my post yesterday, I played through this Somata last night.
Its his very first Piano Sonata, written before he was 18, and is rather immature and disjointed, though the opening melody of the slow movement has its attractions as you have pointed out. I cant say I'm that keen on the middle sections of this movement.
The first movement is an allegro, and the third a minuet and trio. I'd have thought there should have been a fourth movement , so maybe this is one of the several unfinished ones.
