Have been invited to a barbecue of all things.

What about you Miss Ross?
Well, that's different!

I don't think I'm doing anything. I was invited to a friend's house but my dad doesn't want me to go. I'll probably just go to bed, as I have done on New Year's Eve ever since I can remember!
Hope your dog's ok Daisy.

Well it's not fair!

It's new years and you don't want to spend it in bed. It's not so bad if you are older and want to stay in but you are young and should be having fun innit

We were going to walk up the road to the local Rugby Club for a meal until we found out that they are only doing food as part of the Caberet this year. Can't do that with the girls! Don't know if we will find anywhere else to go

BAH. This Grumpy Old Woman and her sister Grumpy Old Bagpuss hate New Year and always have done so we'll probably both be in bed by 11pm.
Neither of us are too well at the moment either which is another reason to go to bed early!

For the first time since 1958 other half is not holding a party. (I haven't known him that long!) His son doesn't want one this year. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I love parties and all of the food preparation and i am very good at putting on mammoth spreads with whole poached salmon, turkey, beef and loads of salads, a vegetarian table and around twenty different puddings! We used to have over 200 guests! Great fun. Still, there is always next year. I'll bring some grub to the forum party instead.

wow.... and i thought seven was a crowd!
tonight i am going to a friend with my family, and shall probably end up being thrown into the pool at midnight (my friend is very into fully-clothed-swimming). hopefully we might play a ferocious round of pictionary or two, or even twister.... no better way to see the new year in than with a couple of well-ripped tendons, i always say!

200 - wow Petrat - you wouldn't like to do my birthday party next year would you.
*thinks * yes, it is
next year still.
Re tonight - I'm never very interested in new year to be honest. We do have a friend dropping in to have a drink - nothing ambitious.

Making sure we don't miss Mr Sarkozy and his New Year Wishes on television this evening.
Making sure my European Voter's card is not out of date (deadline midnight)
Making sure we stay awake until midnight :

So, what's everyone doing for New Year this time around?

Matthew and I are going for a meal at a restaurant in town - I don't feel like doing anything too outrageous this year! My Dad and brother are going to see my 2 favourite bands playing an outside gig in Inverness tonight though.

I'm going out but I really shouldn't drink as I'm on call...

Could work in my favour though, you never know... Watching other people while they get hammered is often entertaining!
A night off the booze won't hurt anyway seeing as I've been off the wagon since Christmas eve...!

That's my philosophy too

I have a gig and agreed to be driver. Still a couple of red bulls and lucozade and I'm just as hyper as everybody else

Have a lovely meal, Celeste - don't think about the bands you're missing, but enjoy the company you're in

Edit - have a lovely time everyone else who posted while I was typing

We're at home. Older son should be home in time for dinner, and younger son wants to see Rodrigo & Gabriela with Jools Holland on Beeb 2 tonight, which is fine by us. We've some fizz in the fridge, some good food cooking, and the fire's burning nicely. Just how I like it

I'm going out. I may drink quite a lot. I wasn't planning to, but it's freezing, I'm in a bad mood, and I'm stuck in my rubbish town where there are only three pubs - so it'll be packed. I think a good deal of archers/vodka may be the only thing that'll get me through.

We have our monthly Taize time in the church so playing and singing for that (it always falls on the last thursday of the month). Its beautiful and a nice way to start gearing up to 2010.. it's our lovely priest's last official working day in the parish before moving so he is having a few people round for glass of champagne. Then round to friend's place to officially see in new year... nothing too mad but looking forward to it..
Just cooked a 3 course dinner for my OH and his band mate who have been on road gigging for past 2 days. they happened to be in this part of the country en route for next leg of 2 gigs. He combined it with picking up clean clothes. It's our first New Years Eve apart as normally we are playing soewhere together so missing him a bit now

(even tho they only left 10 mins ago.)
Looking forward to our unofficial new year celebration together in a couple of days when he gets home..

I feel so much better now I'm all dressed up. I had my hair done today, so it's properly blonde and straight and perfect in a way it would never be if I'd done it. I also dug out my black leather jacket, and my favourite black skirt, and got my mum to do my eye make-up (sad I know, but she's really good at the dark smoky eye effect).
I feel really good now.

Mind you, it'll probably only last until I see the amazing outfit my three-stone-thinner friend has put together.

We don't go out any more because we can't bear to be away from the dogs late at night in case any local fireworks scare them. OH usually just goes to bed but I usually stay up because I love watching the fireworks (quietly) on television. New Years day we usually have a celebration meal with family or friends but we haven't organised anything this time

but everyone is pretty much snowed in here anyway!
We also have over a foot of snow so tomorrow we'll probably just walk the dogs and raid the fridge for yummy left-overs-from-christmas!
Today though I've been thinking back to all the New Year parties I went to when I was younger and I do have some wonderful memories.
Does that all make me sound old?

One CJB special lamb and chickpea curry is bubbling on the hob. A mixed fruit crumble is waiting to be baked. just MrB and me and no fuss. Round to his Mum's for lunch tomorrow.
I'm not a great fan of New Year's Eve but am very glad to see the end of 2009. Then again I said that last year so am a little anxious about 2010.

I sent all my neighbours Christmas cards on the offchance that this might trigger an invitation to a new year party. Not a squeak, however. Didn't fancy paying £18.50 to hang around Exeter's Phoenix Arts Centre watching other people having a good time with their friends, so it'll be Jools Holland and/or the cast of Absolutely (I got the DVD box set for Xmas) tonight.
