I'm not too sure where I should've posted this thread. I hope this place is appropriate.

I have questions regarding conducting, but through the threads I've looked through so far, it seems that this site is dedicated to instrumental teaching? Could I also discuss conducting-related questions here?

Also, I'd like to note that I have no connection whatsoever to ABRSM, however, as a music education/music performance (cello) double major here in the United States of America, I was wondering if I could take part in discussion from both the teacher and student standpoint here on the ABRSM forums.

I hope for a charitable response.

welcome.gif Unfortuntly I can't answer any of your conductor related questions, but we're a very friendly bunch here, wink.gif and I'm sure everyone will do there best to make you feel welcome, and if able , to give you some help. goodLuck.gif

Hello and welcome to the foums. There are people here who conduct and who are professional orchestral players so someone may well be able to answer any questions. Perhaps the General Music Forum would be a good place to ask. You don't need to be connected to the ABRSM to post here. We love new members so post away.

I'm sure the community is friendly. Thanks for the welcome!

Alright.

Wait, what would the difference be between the General Music Forum versus the Teachers Forum?

The teachers forum is for stuff to do with teaching, whereas the general music forum is pretty much what it says on the tin: threads are generally not aimed at specific instruments/types of people, but would appeal to a wider range. smile.gif

Welcome!

I know there are some conductors about here so hopefully you'll find them.

If you take a look about, the teacher's forum is mainly for teaching related threads, but the general music is about all sorts of hthings.

No one is excluded from any of the fora though - students are often posting in the teachers forum and vice-versa

I see.

Well, I have some questions on teaching Elgar's Introduction and Allegro for String Quartet and Orchestra, but the questions I have are coming from a teacher standpoint. Should I be posting in this forum or in the General Music Forum? After all, my questions ARE teaching-related... But judging from the posts I've read so far, there seems to be more user-activity in the General Music Forum? Perhaps I've misunderstood.

it depends who you want to read your posts really. Although there may be more people in total on the general music forum, most of these (including myself) wouldn't really be able to advise on teaching. Wherever you post (as long as its not in completely the wrong place eg posting about violin in the viva woodwind), the right people should see it.

The best place to post about 'teaching' or if you want advice from teachers would definitely be the teaching forum. If you wanted advice on 'playing' something, the best place is probably the relevant viva forum.
The same goes for the other sections - the name says it all. If in doubt, look in a couple of the different forums to see what kinds of things people have posted in each.

I hope I've been helpful smile.gif

Probably true, but that's not necessarily a good thing - it could mean that your thread soon disappears to page 2 and gets submerged amongst newer threads. I agree with sarah123 about where to post smile.gif

Welcome to the forums by the way!

Alright, thanks very much, I'm ready to start a new thread with those thoughts in mind. smile.gif
