I don't know of David's source of if he is correct in his statement but I can tell you from experience of applying to good universities (okay only six) and knowing many other people who applied that it is very rare that a points offer will be given by a good university without restriction. Yes there are points offers but they usually say something like '26 points from three A-levels excluding general studies including A B in maths and physics in any order' or something like that (okay that's the old points system but you get the idea!). Since there is lots of competition for the places in the best universities they don't need to accept just 26 points from anything which could be not at all relevant to your degree, e.g. you could apply for a maths degree not telling them that you're about to take 6 grade 8 exams, subsequently pass these exams with distinction; fail A-level maths and still get into the maths degree they have to let you if that's their offer, so they just won't do it. At the other end of the spectrum there are universities who will take points from anything that awards them as they are short of students thus they have lower entrance standards.

1463 hits and rising!

shouldn't you be contacting Simon Cowell and rushing out a CD entitled "essential clarinet" or perhaps "Nat on the 'net".

This is exactly what I was thinking this morning! laugh.gif

David just wants me to apply to places he wants me to apply to. regardless of if i actually want to go there or not. im sure im quite capable of finding uni's to go to, does anyone really think im going to go to a uni and get a degree which wont give me a chance of a job afterwards? i know quite a few ppl who went to 'this uni' and have all got good jobs. so there.
liebe_klavier

Just what I was thinking! Natalie, go to where you want to go to, no matter what other people say.

spose so!

The whole thing is absolutely absurd, ridiculous and stupid. Her mother should not make her do anything but tell her that if she wants to do all of that then she should fund and organise it all herself. She will soon realise whether her hobby or her career is more important, where both money and enjoyment are concerned. Too much may just as well be not at all.

I completely agree, you must go where you want to go, Nat. You are going to be spending three years at university so go where you feel you will be happy. It would be a real shame if you went somewhere and ended up being really unhappy and not enjoying the experience.

IT IS NOT A HOBBY IT IS MY CAREER. i will be paying for it myself, so why dont you just get lost, you have no idea

I wonder if Musicana read the whole thread or just read the opening and posted on the end?

I think you overreacted a bit Natalie but I do see your point of view! laugh.gif

It's true I think that a lot of people do that especially in the longer threads people will only read the beginning and not realise what's in the rest.

About the university, it's vitally important that you pick one that you want to go to somewhere that you can stand to spend three years of your life: no one else can choose for you because you have to live with it!
