Hello Everyone....

When I teach little ones to play the Piano for the first time, I usually rely on Piano Adventures, as the kids seem to love these and learn so much at the same time. I have a few pupils using these books and they are all on the beginners level (before the Primer).

However, I have got a new pupil who has previously been using the John Thompson books and doesn't like them one bit. They don't seem to be doing him much good, so I'm keen to swap to Piano Adventures (gradually of course)... but which level? He isn't a 'beginner' in that he has played the Piano before (he is reading the Grand Staff though he has problems with very basic bass clef), so I don't think starting him on the first beginner book is a good idea. I'm wondering whether I should put him on Book C of the beginners level or put him straight onto the Primer level...

Anyone who uses Piano Adventures and who can give assistance, it would be gratefully received!

I've just found this thread and noticed there are no replies. unsure.gif Personally, I'm not that familiar with Piano Adventures, but if in doubt I think it's better to backtrack a little rather than throw him in out of his depth at that age. You can always make him feel good by seeming to storm ahead quickly.

You don't give his age - but assuming he's around 6/7, I'd put him straight on to Primer - the Bass Clef section is particularly well thought out, and, as the material is so different, he won't feel he's going backwards or anything.

I use Piano Advs almost exclusively now - it's so much more imaginative and inventive than John T biggrin.gif

PS - Of course, you did give his age, in the title! (Which I obviously read and half remembered - duh)

Yay! Thank you Helen; I was looking at the Primer and wasn't sure if I should put him on this or an earlier one, but he's not the sort of kid that would like the beginner level ones I don't think. The Primer would be perfect.

Thank you (again!). smile.gif

How do the A,B and C books link in with the Primer?
It does appear that you'd be repeating stuff so do you use these instead of the Primer and go on to level 1 if you continue with Piano Adventures?
