Does everyone have piano insurance? Is it worth it?
We have a early 1980s small Yamaha grand piano (well used wink.gif ).
Is it worth insuring? For fire & water damage I guess, since no-one would steal them biggrin.gif
Any idea how much these things cost and where to get insurance?
I don't even have home contents insurance (nothing much of value here rolleyes.gif )
Mad Tom
You just need regular home contents insurance. That is a lot cheaper than a specialist musical instrument policy. Specialist policies are really designed for orchestral and pop/rock musicians who travel with their instruments and are therefore very high risk.

If it is worth more than a couple of thousand pounds (which even a well used Yamaha grand will be) then you just make it a named item on a regular household contents policy. If it is worth less than a certain amount (check policy details) then it will be covered automatically along with furniture, carpets, TVs, washing machines, clothes, books etc.

Musician's Union do a good insurance deal for members which may be worth while looking into if you are worried. I have quite a lot of instruments for some considerable value insured with them and they are not too expensive.
