I'm thrilled today because I've just got Sibelius!!! I've been messing around with the demo version for the last week or so, playing my theory exam melody-writing exercises on it to see what they sound like and it's been brilliant! Can't wait to get started on it properly!

Finally finishing an essay that I was beginning to think was completely impossible. (The happiness coming primarily from the fact that it's now over and I can stop spending time writing it, thinking about it and feeling guilty about spending time on other things when I should be doing it, rather than from the essay itself in any way.)

something strange has happened to my left wrist (caused by probably a bit too much piano playing yesterday). Its a bit odd because it feels vaguely sprained BUT i can all of a sudden play staccato scales/fast hanon etc in my left hand as well as in my right without it feeling at all tired or uncomfortable like it did before.
I've come to the conclusion that it must have been slightly dislocated or something similar for the last few years, because i can't think of any other reason for things to so suddenly click into place. And come to think of it, i did always think it was a bit wonkier than my right, but i can't notice the difference now

oops, i seem to have gone on a bit

I'm just really happy

Coming back from Tesco's - one of my least favourite times of the week, so it's great to think I don't have to go again for a whole week!
On the other hand, I know I should feel grateful for the ease of buying so many different foods from all around the world in one fairly hassle-free shopping trip, but one so easily takes it all for granted. Have you ever stopped to say a silent thank you to all the people involved in milking cows, picking vegetables, driving lorries, preparing foods etc, just so that you can have a varied diet?

Getting a rather sweet and caring email from my music teacher asking how I was because I'd been really depressed last time she saw me and had been off for over a week since. It made me smile to realise that I give so much to the school music department that they really miss me when I'm not there.

One of my pupils FINALLY mastered tonguing yesterday. She's a clever 12 year old beginner and we had sort of been marking time (in her eyes) as she had to improve her tonguing and embouchure and yesterday she learned a new note and was really excited! It was bottom E (on clarinet) and she said "My Dad will love this note"..... followed by "My Dad will love this piece " (loads of lovely low notes which we were playing LOUDLY) and she continued "I'm going to play this to my dad when I get home".
She was the last pupil of the day and that made my day!!

Does anyone ever master tonguing?

My son is doing his DipABRSM in July, but still has to work on tonguing, and even his teacher, who plays freelance with some top orchestras, says it's an area she needs to improve in her own playing.
Still, I take your point - it's great when there's a sudden improvement in a basic musical skill like tonguing.

Thinking again about last nights Bach recital in Leeds by Freddy Kempf.
We got the Partita No 6 and the Busoni Chaconne arrangement in the first half., then the complete Goldberg Variations , almost an hour in the second half. Absoultely brilliant. And all from memory.
I cant remember when I enjoyed a concert more .
