The owner of our Company (whom actually we rarely see, as theres a holding company between us and him), has offered me two tickets for 'The Marrage of Figaro' at Glyndebourne in August. He's fixing hotel as well, though whether its at his expense or ours I dont know at the moment!

My cat is torn between wanting her usual morning cuddle, and remembering that she has the hump with me for taking a mouse away from her last night (it was alive and I put it somewhere she couldn't go straight back out and find it again).
It's going along the lines of: purr, purr, purr, oh hang on, flounce, sneak back, purr, purr, flounce, not talking to you, well, maybe, purr, purr...

I've always wanted to go to Glyndebourne and the Marriage of Figaro would be the perfect work to see.

I signed up for the Cameo Orchestra play day with the Manchester Camerata on 4th March at RNCM. Received an e-mail with the music in it - Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings blink.gif I'll be lucky to play one note in three!

Anyone else going? Happy to meet up for lunch beforehand (doesn't start till 2pm). There are woodwind and string groups I believe? I'll stick something in Events to avoid clogging this thread.

Hey listening to that made me happy. I can remember my dad sitting with me in our front room when I was a child listening to this with me and telling me how amazing it is.

What I was going to write was the sun shining through made me happy- but this little treat of music and a memory of my dad made me even happier. Thank you. biggrin.gif

Whilst Classic FM can be irritating with its obession with "the top 300" at least the Allegri features regularly. It's surprisingly simple really - an alternatim setting of the Gregorian chant psalm tone and harmonised sections. It's fun to sing.

I've bought a harpsichord...

...for my iPad laugh.gif
Actually, I got a piano app that has a harpsichord sound available, as the specific harpsichords apps I could find didn't seem to be overly well-reviewed. And getting a piano one with other sounds means I can make other silly noises too (like pretending to be an organ). Lots of piano apps have other instrument sounds available, but not all that many have harpsichord. It appears to only do A=440, but I suppose you can't have everything wink.gif (and actually, it appears to transpose by semitones, so you can get to A=415 that way)

No, there's no intention of anything sensible happening with this, it's just a bit of fun smile.gif tongue.gif laugh.gif

I'll always remember what the tester said to me when my driving test was finished. He sort of went 'Humph, well I'll give you the benefit of the doubt! But we did nearly roll back into the Town Hall Square'. I guess I rolled back a few inches on a hill start, on a hill 100 yards above the Town Hall Square (Keighley) That was April 1965.

I thought my tester was going to burst into tears when he passed me (in 1975).

I had reversed onto the kerb when reversing around a corner, but I think that was forgiven when I avoided a nasty accident by looking over my shoulder beofre turning right into the test centre, when I saw a nutter in a Cortina about to overtake, at the same time as another car he was racing undertook us on the left.

"I take it you ride a motorcyle?" he said glumly! smile.gif

Everyone thought I was mad when I booked my driving test on the 18th November 2005 having passed my theory that day (which was my 17th birthday). My test was on the 21st December 2005. I'd had a year on the roads riding a scooter to get road experience and had owned my first car for a year previous to that and had been playing about with it.

Never had a lesson with a professional instructor just drove everyday with my parents, I was over the moon to have passed first time and all it cost me was the theory and practical test fees.

Don't think the examiner had ever had anyone so keen laugh.gif

Learning to drive need not be expensive smile.gif

I was failed TWICE in 1990 for being too defensive/polite towards other road users. Nowadays I always make a point of being polite in my car, and if they don't like me because I stick to 30mph in 30mph zones and show fingers to me, I always assume that if its two fingers they're displaying they're listening to Radio 2, or one for Radio 1.

I often wonder if there is a different Highway Code for van drivers, as they often seem to use hand signals that don't appear in the version I have. smile.gif

Finally arriving home at 9.40pm, having taken 4 1/2 hours to come the last 25 miles of my journey from Pontefract. The A34 driving south was not the place to be today, and breaking down in the middle of one of the worst queues I can remember did not add to the fun. sad.gif

I was so fortunate that about 5 minutes after breaking down, a very kind white van man, complete with flashing amber light, tow rope and the know-how to affix same to my car, pulled up in front of me and offered to tow me to some services 6 miles down the road. It took the poor chap 90 minutes to achieve the same; his clutch leg must have been dropping off! And he wouldn't take a penny from me for his kindness, as he was going that way in any case. The RAC man who arrived an hour later was also kindness itself, and managed to fix the car in 10 minutes whilst I sat in his cab in the warm!

So two very kind gentlemen of the road (if you'll pardon the expression) really made my day much better than it might have been. smile.gif
