An awesome day!
Firstly the music festival, my ocarinas did me proud....then a 24hr swimming marathon where my daughter was swimming all night - every hour, so no sleep - and son did a short shift in the afternoon.....then same daughter off to the festival to play. She was exhausted, didn't want to do it, didn't think she could do it, almost couldn't see due to chlorine eyes and a cold that had materialised, and said that when she was playing her fingers were a blur, she couldn't focus! But came away with a 1st place (joint with 2 others, the adjudicator couldn't split them!) so that was way more than we had hoped for

oh and then she went back to the pool to finish the marathon
And then on to play a celidh with some bandmates to about 300 people....made a few jaws drop as Gib does not have an Irish band - well it didn't until last night! It was a cracking night and now I just wish I could be that relaxed (even though every tune relied on me) when I played classical! Fantastic!!

Oh and our Festival adjudicator is an ABRSM examiner senior moderator! He has a wonderful manner, his comments have been fantastic, spot on the mark and really illumintaing/helpful. I think the best adjudicator I've seen. Looking forward to being back there today

Another super Evensong, the 4th in a series of 5 at which the Bishop gives the address. Tonight we even had incense, as we had a solemn Evensong for Mothering Sunday.

Was a bit peeved that DH didn't even mention Mother's Day - I know it isn't Mother's Day in Italy but I am an English mother! This morning he pointed out that yesterday was actually Father's Day in Italy - whoops.

So we have decided that this week we are going to celebrate both!
Saw this this morning and it made me happy:

Recovering today from yesterday's musical excesses...
We had our Vaughan Williams fest. Main work was the Sea Symphony, but first part was what we believe to be only the second ever public performance of the Garden of Proserpine (discovered in 2010 after a 100 years in a library) and the Lark Ascending - stunning performance by the leader of the Orchestra of Opera North, David Greed.
As I was nominally the concert manager for this event, I had a fair amount of stuff to do yesterday....
EDIT: fixed dreadful typos and added soloist's details.

I had forgotten that such services existed!
I was at a works long service presentation some years ago where a Stripogram was hired. The General Manager, who had apparently hired the girl, ended up getting a hefty slap for taking rather more interest than was good for him! It was some time before he was allowed to forget that particular indiscretion!
Enjoy it anyway!

Surviving 2 days of AB exams....This batch of pupes gave me SUCH grief coming up to the exams that even Bag, Queen of Internalising, got a teensy bit rattled....but I think most of them played more or less as well as they can in the accompanied bits yesterday and today. I have promised two of my big boys a present if they pass their scales. Don't worry, my money's safe....!! Bless. Pity actually as I have a couple of lovely CDs in mind which I know they would both absolutely adore....ah well, chaps, c'est la vie

Will keep you posted although I have a nasty feeling results will be held back due to a bit of a mishap with one of the candidates....Have you ever seen a flautist and an organist trying to string a fiddle (there MUST be a joke there somewhere but we failed to see the funny side at the time)....or indeed seen the look on said organist's face when asked if she'd be willing to "busk" an accompaniment when a candidate turned up with no piano parts.....

Get that round here too! The local 'new' church is 300 years old soon (next year). The medieval church fell/burnt down in the 1690s. Of course the medieval church was not the original, that replaced a Saxon church around 1200...
