Thinking again about last nights Bach recital in Leeds by Freddy Kempf.
We got the Partita No 6 and the Busoni Chaconne arrangement in the first half., then the complete Goldberg Variations , almost an hour in the second half. Absoultely brilliant. And all from memory.
I cant remember when I enjoyed a concert more . biggrin.gif

Wish I'd been there!

Happy this morning with a new Yankee candle... I'm easily pleased smile.gif

It's baby powder scent! The whole house smells gorgeous party1.gif

After my headteacher making a comment to my mum about how average I was, him being stopped by another teacher in the corridor by the music dept. whilst I was playing something slightly impressive made me smile in a 'revenge is sweet' kind of way... happy.gif

May not be the best for sound, but we were quite lucky to get any because we booked fairly late and it will be great to see her playing up close smile.gif

1 and 1/2 hours when all 3 children were in activities (panto dress rehearsal for 2 and scouts) and I had the house to myself. I did some practice and ironed.

Also had teaching. I LOVE teaching. I'm so lucky to do what I enjoy (most of the time).

We had a very good choir practice today and my new concert programme for next May's performance was really well received by all. smile.gif Some new members there too, and loads of very nice comments and compliments about the last one. One lady said that several complete strangers had stopped her in the street to tell her how much they had enjoyed it. biggrin.gif

Having just had my 3-4.30pm meeting cancelled so I can go home at 4pm biggrin.gif

Also, that meeting has been cancelled because the team in question looked at the document I/we put together on the disadvantages of what they were proposing to do, and decided 'we don't need a meeting, what we were going to do was stupidly difficult, let's do it the less difficult way that Maizie and her colleagues proposed'.

Today was a really good day biggrin.gif

I had the lesson next to lunch free and the weather was really nice (sunny, but not hot or windy) , so i cycled round Cambridge for a bit, then parked my bike and pottered around the bookshops for a while (didn't dare go into the music shops again - may have spent more than i meant to yesterday). then bought some lunch and sat in the sun while finishing reading my book. Went back to college, and chemistry was cancelled because the teacher couldn't see us concentrating too much for the last lesson before half term.

So, not too bad really today biggrin.gif Bring on half term!!

Making a few greetings cards a hobby I rarely get time to enjoy now.

Managing to surivive what seemed like a complete disaster, when one my housemates starting having water leaking from the bathroom into his room. Despite being a bunch of clueless students we managed to take down all the panneling in the bathroom, fix the problem, and start drying everything out again. And laugh about it.

And despite the card making and disaster control, I still managed to find time to get the work I needed to do done!

What made me happy? About half an hour ago - the most gorgeous sunset so far this year - all green and gold and fire.

Cooking stuff for my cat and my rats. We saw some very very cheap reduced-to-clear chicken livers, and after freezing them, hunting out my recipes, buying the other ingredients as needed, defrosting the livers and cooking, I now have four very happy rats tucking in to squares of liver cake (little squares, with the rest in the freezer), and a cat full-up on 'meaty rice delight' (beef mince, liver, rice, pretty much - she'll get that once a week until we run out of it in the freezer!)

Running a successful and very rewarding and enjoyable session for the Fast-Track CT ABRSM course. Lovely bunch of people smile.gif !

And, driving home, just approaching Heathrow on the M25 there was the most stunning sunset - mixture of blood-reds with the pale blue of the higher sky - and a plane coming in to land just over the road - the most gasp-making sight...

A very able accompanist friend of mine has agreed to play for all of the solo items at my Anglesey event on March 8th. He is very kindly giving his time for the price of the petrol only. We are so lucky to have him. He is a good pianist and good fun too. (And single!)

Well, I wouldn't say it belongs particularly in the 'making me happy' thread but I have a great recipe for liver-cake which I use for training my dogs...
Blitz liver, garlic, wholemeal flour, water and a little corn oil together until it's like a soft dough (I add a herbal mix with minerals too). Bake in the oven until brown. Slice into small squares (10p size for training). Good for treats and freezes well too.

For reluctant learners I slice raw liver very thinly and dry it out in the oven (about half to three quarters of an hour). This motivates even the most recalcitrant hounds... wink.gif (and is kept between training sessions in a bag in the fridge)

The rat's liver cake (from The Scuttling Gourmet) is:
Some liver blended in to ikky mess
2-3 eggs
2 chopped garlic cloves
Mix all the above together. Stir in wholemeal flour until it is of 'sponge cake' consistency. Cook (mine took about 25mins @ gas mark 4, with 300g of liver).
I cut this up in to cubes, put four on the counter in the kitchen to feed to the rats, then sorted out the rest for the freezer. I then left the kitchen, forgetting about the liver cake on the counter. I returned to the kitchen shortly thereafter - having remembered - to find half a cube of liver cake left, next to some crumbs, and the cat sitting at the top of the stairs looking very content but also 'I haven't been downstairs and particularly not in to the kitchen all day'

For the cat, her recipe came from Feline Feasts - but I see they do a canine version called Doggie Dinners. Her dinner was:
100g cooked rice
250g beef mince
100g liver in 'bite size' pieces
1 egg
Fry beef and liver. Stir in egg (retain shell) and cook for a few more minutes. Put the egg shell in the oven for 5mins. Crush up the egg shell. Add 1tsp of crushed egg shell to the rice. Mix rice/egg shell with beef/liver. Serve cold (allegedly makes 10 portions, but I split it in to 8 - because of the liver/vitamin A, recommended to feed no more than once a week).

So, to remain on topic, what's made me happy today? Coming in to work on Monday and finding that (a) nothing disasterous seems to have happened over the weekend (often Monday seems to be 'day of panicked corrections') and (b) knowing I have the day off tomorrow to spend with my brother and his children!
Aquarelle
I posted in the anti stress thread yesterday because I was going to have my head scanned.
What made me happy today was that it wasn't half so bad an expereince as predicted. I really didn't need the sedatives at all. The the radiologist came out and said I had made him happy because at last, after a fortnight of having to break bad news to patients, he had found someone with a normal brain!!

The minus side is that they therefore still don't know what is making me keel over when I should be upright -and apparently it's not ear trouble either. Oh well..... the search continues.

However, I am happy to announce that not only do I have a brain but it appears to be functionning normally.

Meanwhile, I think I will slip into our beautiful 12th century church tomorrow and light a candle for all those to whom the radiologist had to give discouraging news.

Thanks for the good wishes expressed on the other thread.

So pleased the news is good so far, Aquarelle, and I do hope they sort out the cause of your problems soon.

I went to a nine year old this evening who has been learning her part for a duet we planned to play this week. To start with, she became flummoxed when I played my part with her and said she couldn't do it, and at first refused to try. However, I broke it down into four bar segments and we practiced each one together. By the end of the lesson, we played the whole thing through, and were in time with each other. She was really pleased with herself, and rightly so! smile.gif
