A baby shower?! What's that? ph34r.gif
petrat
Baby showers are parties that American mums hold when they bring their new sprogs home. Their friends turn up, eat cake and shower the new baby with pressies.

For the first time in what seems ages, I've been able to gently use my singing voice biggrin.gif

Oooo, so if I have a modem party, will I get lots of pressies too biggrin.gif
Miss Ross
No, but the new baby/modem will! Is it a boy or a girl, skyers? biggrin.gif
petrat
Virtual ones, yes. I think that some of the more thoughtful friends give the mum pressies too to help them cope with the stress of the new arrival.

Having 10 minutes to spare this morning before I had to be where I was supposed to be, and going to stand by the river. I have a lot of memories of this river, from when I was tiny to just last year and there is something very calming about just standing and listening to the water move over the rocks. People walked by without noticing me, which is just the way I like it and I didn't care if I looked mad for watching the ducks intently. I wanted to take a photo of it all but I knew it wouldn't capture the atmosphere, so I just tried to remember every little detail. I'd give anything to be standing there now...

Card and chocolate from OH. He'd gone to great lengths to pick a card I'd like - colours, design, everything, and hadn't noticed that down the side it said Happy Mother's Day! It was good to start the day with a laugh - as long as I get a card on Mother's Day too (any sort will do, Birthday, Christmas...)

Random pool at 2 in the morning, beating two people even though I'd never potted a ball before (with a bit of judicious cheating, and help from the people I was playing against) and then calling into the porters' lodge at 3:30 to discover that a parcel had arrived for me, with a new music book in. smile.gif

The work, that is sad.gif The coffee's a given.

But while I'm here...

Does anyone have any motivational tips???? ...please... blush.gif

I am enjoying my course, I've just lost steam after being so ill last term mad.gif ..

Well, now that I think about it, maybe I'm not so happy because the 'work' pile is huge wacko.gif

My Book of Hymns has finally arrived in the post - after a suggestion on this forum I decided that I am going to play a new hymn each day to improve my sightreading....there's 977 of them blink.gif ...so I'll let you know if it works in a few years' time biggrin.gif

(Sorry Lottie - no motivation tips from me. I have done zilch all day towards studying - do have a very tidy house though laugh.gif )

My software now works!!!! (See scream thread)

Helpdesk finally found someone who could fix the installation problem. Hurrah! But then it turned out the problem from last Friday remained, which helpdesk don't help with....so I did what I should have done in the first place and put the error message in Google.

Found the problem, fixed it, back up and running biggrin.gif I'm almost annoyed I have the day off tomorrow so can't sort things...but only almost, I shan't be working tomorrow. biggrin.gif

I'm happy because I made it to my Uni seminar today and really enjoyed two thirds of it. (This is a complex issue and it's a big achievement!).

Then I worked in the library for the afternoon (because I managed to find a dog-sitter for the whole day). Now I feel tired and have a headache but it's great biggrin.gif

The fact that my slurred scales have improved so much, that my Bach for my (possible) Grade 1 in June has come on so much and that the first ever piece I did for the very first time today with double stopping (deliberately playing 2 strings at once, not just catching the wrong one all the time) went well and sounded quite good. biggrin.gif

I also finished and washed my latest cross stitch for framing and managed to get most of the nasty marks out of some others that have been hanging around for a while waiting to be framed. Ugh! Leaving blue fabrics in the hoop/frame for a long time makes awful marks on them! Never again, I swear! mad.gif
