Finally getting a date for my new contract, after being off work for the last 2 months
(that's not to say I haven't enjoyed the last 2 months, in which we've done loads of exploring and fun things but it is nice to end the uncertainty about the future)

I went down to college to see if my credit card had come in the post (which it hasn't ) and discovered that the clarinet reeds I ordered yesterday had arrived already.

Don't know if you use the same company as I do, but they're very prompt

I think so (although I haven't used them for reeds before). I used the reeds bit of wood wind and reed which has a different name.

Have got 1 box of Rico Royal 3s, 1 box of Rico Royal 3.5s and 1 box of Rico Grand Concert Select Evolution 3s (expensive - but give my clari a lovely rich darkish sound, and will only be used when I want to treat myself).

Guess what I'm going to do tonight....

1)A non scale learning pupil learning 2 more grade 5 scales - we didn't do exam last term as she didn't know scales- and she still doesn't!!!!

2) Had 5 11-12 year old boys sleeping over last night- they have all gone home (except my son)

3) and have been replaced by 4 10 year old girls- much easier, especially after I have had a glass of wine and golden syrup ice cream

4) and apart from forgetting to walk the dog, I haven't forgotten anything else today - hospital appt for eldest, lessons for pupils, getting kids to revise for gcses/practise (my own kids).
Dog doesn't seem to be too cross with me.
I even have the stuff for choc fountain for tonight. am a good mother (if bad dog owner).

How do you do that? I'm so unsuccessful that my son isn't even here. He went camping for the night (thunder and rain - hee hee), and has spent the holidays catching up on his history coursework that was supposed to be in before the end of term. Not a bit of revision so far, three workable days left. The same teacher who told them not to revise for their mocks apparently also told them that they shouldn't do too much revision over the holidays because they'd been working so hard (hard at what?) This should be in the aaargh thread, come to think of it! Sorry about the rant, your day sounds great

My real reason for posting here - over the last couple of weeks I bought four vintage glass vases on ebay and they ALL arrived in this morning's post. They're all gorgeous and it was like Christmas (even though I'd paid for them all myself)

A good rehearsal with oboeist and soprano for a concert in a fortnight's time. Especially as the recorder player and second pianist both had to pull out yesterday for health reasons.

i received an email regarding the prize i won from a competition last year. part of the prize is to give a reictal at St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Well, since this season is now fully booked, I will have to write and send my details to the organist there, who will offer me a date for the next season.

also, dissertation is officially done and will be printed out (and binded) tomorrow.

Just come back from a 'Holiday Orchestra' concert at the end of the course. I was playing 1st clarinet in a horrendously difficult arrangement of 'Pastime with Good Company' (arr Philip Sparke) but it went well... I think!

Been shortlisted for a job. Had my interview yesterday and they called this morning to say that I had been shortlisted. got to go back next Wednesday and do some online testing.

Word, Excel plus one of those personality testing and also some maths and literacy.

Not too worried about everything except the personality thing, I never know what to answer!

Ooh ! thanks Miss Ross for your confidence. I lost my job last year whilst I was taking care of my Mum on a 24 hour basis for nearly a year, this will be the first job that I have been shortlisted for since Mum went home. I have been trying for months now.

Even if I don't get it, I know that I have done well to get this far, and I am sure that something else will come along. anyway, I am not getting too excited about it at this stage.

Off to play tennis now, that makes me happy too!!

Today, I went to the wedding of my Uncle. He was widowed two years ago, and met his new wife via an internet dating thingy! They are both 69 and looked as happy and excited as teenagers!

Today some lovely new music arrived in the post along with my new viola shoulder rest - now my viola has new strings and a new rest and sounds and feels soooo comfortable and mellow

Weekend now!!!!

Spending time with some folk in Leeds, followed by a stationary binge in the clearance section of WHSmith!

Finishing a piece of writing that has been hanging over me for far too long and a lengthy cello practice session culminating in a glass of wine that I felt I have learned!

Someone came up to be before the service this morning and told me that I played beautifully. I was so shocked (especially as I wasn't quite getting the sound I wanted on a couple of notes) that I then proceeded to make a couple of daft mistakes in the first two songs/hymns!

She was definitely being serious , because she came back to talk to me at the end of the service.

I've never had anyone say that they like my flute playing before - and really wasn't quite sure how to react!

! Well, people don't say things like that lightly. Although I know compliments are hard to accept. Well done

But you'd say that about anybody, Barry - even if they could only play one note - just because you're the kind of person who always tries to be encouraging to everyone else.

I think that this Lady was actually being serious and wasn't just trying to be encouraging. That's what threw me because I've never encountered it before.
