How did the English exams go?
lucky045
Thanks everyone. smile.gif

This year at York it's just lots and lots of assessed essays - and no exams for English. The essays were ok-ish, I have a chance to revise them over summer, though they've also been partly marked. Something like... they've been assessed as drafts, and that mark goes towards our first year results, and then they'll be assessed again when finished, after summer, to go towards second year results.

I'm getting scared now! ph34r.gif It can't be too bad though, because I'm sure if I'd failed I would've had warnings and things before now...

Talking of Pimm's, we had a fire drill on Friday afternoon at the office. Our assembly point happens to be outside a restaurant by the river.

All I can say is that the manager of that place isn't stupid... within minutes he was out there trying to sell Pimm's smile.gif Most people indulged, despite the disapproving looks of various line managers!

Well, it was flippin' hot and we needed to cool down somehow wink.gif

An old sort of friend.

We went to primary school together, and she goes to my school now. But there was always this weird thing between us because my close friend and her HATED each other. So I was never "allowed" to chat or be friends with her, and she didn't want to chat to the friend of her enemy.

But she has the same flute teacher as me. We've politely congratulated each other on grades we've heard about in the past, but never actually talked properly.

But her mum must have told her about me being upset after the exam (soooo embarrassing, I hate hormones and emotions of being a teenager mad.gif )

and she asked me about it on facebook, and was really sweet.

and we both chatted about how each of our exams went, because she did the same grade and same pieces exactly after my exam smile.gif
it was a bit awkward, but generally pleasant biggrin.gif

You also get used to it being something that you're told will be better one day, but it isn't.
When you're a teenager, it'll be fine once your hormones settle down.
Once you're a bit older, it'll be fine once you've had a baby.
When you're pregnant, it'll be fine once you've had the baby.
Once you've had a baby, it'll be fine once your hormones settle down (again).
Once you've had all the babies you're going to have, it'll be fine once you've had the menopause.
When you're in the menopause, it'll be fine once you are properly post-menopausal (i.e. once your hormones settle down).
Once you're post-menopausal, it's your lack of hormones.

I've just done my grade 8 piano, and it went really well (Whether the examiner agrees is a different story!).
I started with scales, and I think I responded quickly to all of them, and there were no mistakes in any of them except one where I did the Harmonic instead of Melodic and she let me do it again. All the arpeggios etc went fine, as did the scales in 3rds and 6th's (even C# minor in 6th's which I was dreading, but played it with no mistakes at all for once!).

My pieces were good, particularly the Beethoven. The Cimarosa from the A list went a lot better than expected, and the mistakes that I was making the day before strangely didn't happen in the exam (Although I did repeat a bar for some strange reason!). The Beethoven on the B list was really good, there were a few slips here and there, but that's to be expected. The Gershwin on the C list was good, although I mucked up a bar or two that could of been better, but oh well!

Aural was interesting! The singing the 3rd line of a piece started ok, but I forgot the ending! The sight singing also started well, but the ending "lost it's way" (what an old examiner wrote!). The other two tests went really well though, except I forgot the name of the modulation when it changers key (eg. F major to G minor).

Sight reading was also very good. A slip or two, but oh well!

Overall I think it went really well, but now i've said that, I'll end up failing or getting 101! dry.gif wacko.gif

Now I have a long wait for results! (well, hopefully not that long a wait!)

Jacob. smile.gif
