This is one from yesterday......

I'd been playing my clarinet whilst the kids were outside "helping" Daddy.

when i called them in for tea my clarinet was still on it's stand. My little boy (4) said "have you been playing your clarinet Mummy?" To which i replied "Yes - didn't you hear me?"

Answer: Yes...... but I thought it was just music.... On THAT (pointing to the CD player on which I normally play my Emma Johnson CDs)

I was really moved

It felt like a huuuge compliment even though I know I didn't actually sound "just like the CD" as my daughter then said.

Got to love them for it

I didn't drop anything at work today, and my brother even said I was quite efficient.

Lots today.

1- It's a nice day, weather-wise.
2- I just got back from an amazing week of shooting, marching about and generally having loads of fun on army cadets camp. I made loads of new friends and have passed my 'Basic' training.
And....
3- I passed my Grade 6 piano with distinction, 143!

143 is a stupendous mark for Grade 6 (and any other grade, come to that). Very well done

I went to the cinema in Bath today with some friends. I went with two girls, and they insisted we should see "The Proposal", which I didn't think i'd like, but it was pretty good and very funny at times!

I've also started learning some new music I've been avoiding the Revoloutionary Etude by Chopin and have been playing "Golliwogs Cake Walk" by Debussy instead! I much prefer the Debussy, seeing as the Chopin has quite a few more notes and goes quite a bit faster!

The sighting of a large black striped tabby cat in the car park behind my mother's house...followed ten minutes later by all the food she put out on her patio being eaten. It seems our missing cat (see the Scream thread) may still be in the locality, and know where his food is coming from. Hopefully he will be brave enough to come back in to the house at some point, but at least it seems he knows where 'his bread is buttered' and hasn't completely disappeared...

(She is ordering the reglazing of her back door, to have a cat flap fitted, now we have a probable sighting!)

The most wonderful choir rehearsal with the most wonderful choir conductor I've ever experienced...I was moved to tears on more than one occasion today...

A lovely sunny afternoon listening to a live soul/funk band at Broadstairs bandstand.

Being greeted by my daughter at 7am ready to start her day.

Dad making frames for my very small collection of exam certificates (3 overall! 1 piano and 2 flutes hehe. I keep looking over them proudly...)

They're really pretty, although he made the first one a bit tight so we have to trim the certificate a mm or two

My bedroom is the attic, and there's a flight of stairs with a nice big wall next to it, which is where they're all going to go

For some reason, my Grade 4 piano certificate is in a frame. The others aren't!

Yeah, well dad's a DT teacher so he makes nearly everything. In my room I've got...

a homemade desk, lamp, jewellery box, jewellery stand, bookshelves, bookends, other little boxes and probably a lot of other things too...

Now he's got into making stools and tables. Also pens he buys the ink tube and nib, then makes the body and lid out of turned wood with metal tubing inside. Very pretty- and for every friend/relative's birthday he gives them one.

My Grandpa used to make little wooden puzzles, sewing boxes, ornamental things... For my 10th birthday he made me a Victorian-style dolls house from scratch, complete with working electric lights.

wowww, a dolls house! That's amazing, and electric lights too! I would have loved one of those maybe one day when (if) I have kids, then he can be a grandpa and make a dolls house for them

Dad isn't really into making 'pretty' things. They're always a little...strange, which make them his, and unique really. It is nice though, it really makes it feel like it's YOURS, because they make it for you, and nobody else. The most special thing he made me was this box which I called my "Jeremy Box". I had a guinea pig called Jeremy when I was 4 or 5 (I chose the name from a book with a mouse in it called that). So when he asked what I wanted on my box, I said the word Jeremy and lots of Js. So he did as I requested, and made a box out of different coloured layered wood in different patterns, and the lid was hinged, with a chain, and a mirror and velvety stuff inside. On the outside he used pyrography to write Jeremy lots.

Boy, am I going to miss choir rehearsals when I come home...

Awww, good choirs are magical aren't they? I think any choir is magical really . At school our choir is pretty good, and one warm up is like a round, where we all sing a pattern of notes to "aah" and they all fit together brilliantly with 4 different parts. It sounds like heaven

Our choir occasionally sounds like heaven! I just play louder when they're not sounding too heavenly!

Haha, good idea . Our conductor/teacher just gives us a long lecture when we don't sound too good, and picks on people who are the cause for it not sounding good (she always knows who isn't pulling their weight...)

Our conductor is too nice to do that! It's usually me who sits at the piano going "you're flat...you need to sing louder...for goodness sake, you're not the soloist!" etc. I have a different personality at rehearsals, i'm really mean if they don't do what they're supposed to! They don't like it when I take the rehearsal if the teacher is away!

Poor little sis...having a tough time at the moment . Think she needs some forum hugs...

The probable sighting of our missing cat (see Aug 4th) being absolutely definite! He is coming to my mum's garden to eat, we don't know where he is sleeping or spending his days, but yesterday he came to eat and she stood and watched him and it is definitely him and he wasn't toooo bothered about her being there. So fingers crossed that when the door-with-cat-flap arrives in two weeks, she can start moving his food towards the indoors and he will realise he has a new indoor/outdoor living arrangement

I do hope things improve...

Not injuring my driving instructor made me fairly content this morning!

I rescued a nice bike this morning - all it needed was a little cherishing and it is as good as new, and pink under the dirt. It was going to be skipped! I know I have too many bikes but couldn't let this one pass me by.

The scanning routine I've been attempting to write all day is finally working and seems to be producing realistic data
