I was looking through some old photos of mine yesturday and came across the ones from my holiday in Portugal in 1999. Well I found one of me in the kids club and next to me was a girl called Pearl who I made really good friends with. Obviously, the holiday ended I went home and we never contacted as we didn't have computers when we were 7/8 ... but I found her last night on facebook, and we both remembered the games and songs we did in the kids club, but then this proves that it's a "small world" ...

I told her how I have someone at my class from Jersey, she asked me his name to see if she knew him, and she did! She told me that she knew him because she's good friends with his girlfriend.

Talk about, "it's a small world".

That's lovely to hear, Cyrilla! smile.gif

My "happy" is that my brother has come safely through his prostatectomy today. The consultant says that should be the last he hears of the cancer, as they caught it quite early, so all he has to do now is recuperate. I know it's a relatively low risk op, but it's still good that he's the other side of it.

This afternoon. First, we tried a science experiment (about carbon dioxide being heavier than air, and fire needing oxygen to burn) which we thought would be a good visual way of getting the point across, which didn't work, but was quite funny as we attempted it!
My sister (aged 15) then asked me to teach her something on the piano. She meant something vaguely "pop"-like, but I got out a book of easy arrangements of classical well-known stuff, and she then spent ages trying to play the first bit of one piece. Her concentration made my day! smile.gif We also did some singing stuff (as at first she seemed unable to pitch a note after I played it on the piano, but could if I sang it - slightly concerned me! She managed it eventually!) and she grabbed a hymn book from on top of the piano, and sang various hymns she found flicking through!

She never usually takes interest in piano or music apart from her "pop"-stuff which she sings around the house, but today she did. smile.gif

I ordered Mrs. a new car yesterday a Volvo S40 to go with my S80. Her Corsa was 10 yrs old so we got the ?2000 scrappage in addition to about ?2200 discount as well. We wont get delivery till May though.

My son playing the piano. He's had some sort of virus that has left him feeling (though not being) sick almost the whole time for about the last three weeks. He's managed to get to school almost every day, and has kept his guitar practice going as he's in for an exam in March, but for the last week/10 days piano has been too much on top of that. There's been a definite improvement in how he feels over the last couple of days, and when I suggested a practice before tomorrow's lesson, I got his current pieces played in all sorts of ways that showed he was enjoying himself, and then a few of our favourite past pieces and lots of extra twiddly bits. Now he's gone for a lie down biggrin.gif

Cat to vet, staple removed from her wound. So we're done!
She's come home, and is totally bemused by the fact I'm sitting there poking her cat flap (not a euphemism!) to show her that it works again (having been shut and sealed over for the last week and a half).
She hasn't used it yet, but has been out with me for a walk in the garden instead...once she works out that it works again, that will be it for the evening - "I can be indoors, I can be outdoors, indoors, outdoors, indoors, outdoors!"

Another cat one - our cat was the model of good behaviour having her claws clipped at the vet's today. Last time we went we had a really horrible vet who tried to forcibly hold her down in case she bit him (she bit him once - five years ago) and she got so stressed out that she was snarling and trying to bite him again. She's seventeen years old and arthritic, and he was clearly hurting her. We protested, and he said that he had to protect himself - the last bite hurt! She's normally a very docile cat. This time I made sure that we got the lady vet, who makes a fuss of her and handles her gently - no problems!

It was Ashley Page's The Nutcracker performed by the Scottish ballet, it was the original German version of the story, and it was honestly absolutely wonderful! smile.gif (although I don't think the people sitting around us appreciated us dissecting it at the interval, we went as a trip with my dance school and the four of us student teachers and the principal teacher sat together, oooh the things we noticed tongue.gif ) the two principal dancers were Tomomi Sato and Erik Cavallari, and they were both absolutely amazing, as were the rest of the company smile.gif

At the risk of taking a bashing:

Philip Glass: The Piano Collection
Einaudi - Divenire (as I'd only had downloaded versions of some of the pieces and wanted the book)

I've bought quite a lot of heavy classical stuff lately so this is some light relief smile.gif

I got my favourite cat back from the vet this morning - minus her ovaries. Fretted all night about her but she is fine and the Prince Tom Charmings in the garden have gone off in disgust. So I am happy.

Only problem is, her younger "sister" has just started yowling and rolling so I suppose the Toms will be back and we will have to go through it all again next week. (Our vet won't operate until they have had their first heat so we will be obliged to live behind locked doors and closed shutters for another week.)
