Crotchety Mum - The only Carry On film I've seen is Carry on Camping. Is that one much later?

Carry on Nurse was 1959 and Carry on Camping was 1970 (I've just checked) and there's a massive difference between them biggrin.gif

Good luck with the new housemate smile.gif

Should have done it really, it would have guaranteed me keeping my double seat! Or a whole carriage to myself! Lol

Well, it was yesterday actually - but being privileged enough to have been in two of the most amazing sessions of my life with one of the most gifted and inspiring Kodály educators I've ever known...I was moved to tears by the beauty of his words and his teaching and had to dash back to the hotel for a sob...am SOOO inspired it's not true...

Yes, Baz, the Brum Day was yesterday - and it was an amazingly lovely and good day - but the sessions I referred to were at the MusicLearningLive!2010 event at the RNCM.

Watching Carry on Nurse. Much gentler in its comedy than the later films, unexpected performances by people like Joan Hickson, and actors like Kenneth Williams and Kenneth Connor acting really well, before their Carry On characters became caricatures smile.gif

Managed to play some of my forthcoming Diploma pieces to Y12s with fair success. Played my Bach Prelude and the first two movements of the Schubert Sonata. Provided information on their musical form and what to look out for, so good preparation for the impending viva voce. smile.gif

We're soon to lose our Canadian-born Acting Second in Music Department, so I played them my Maple Leaf Drag! that I composed for him the other week. Used the letters of his first name and surname to provide the notes for two themes respectively. blink.gif

Somewhat spookily, my first nine bars fitted harmonically above the first two stanzas of the Canadian National Anthem in long notes - hence the 'Drag' in the title. laugh.gif

Disruption to the trains means I have a very good reason to work from home today.

If this had happened last week I would probably still have had to sit at the computer pretty much non-stop. But having met last weeks deadlines this week is more relaxed while I wait for people to respond. So although I've got a fair bit of work to do I reckon I should be able to fit in some extra practice as well!

When I woke up this morning, the outside temperature was positive (0.6 C)
And the weather forecast didn't have ice / snow / torrential rain even mentioned.

So I cycled to work! IPB Image

Only the second time in 2010 - last regular cycling was in November. I was a bit slow but I enjoyed it which is the main thing. Helps that I drive the same route so I know where all the vicious evil potholes that have appeared due to the snow are!

Oh, and nearly forgot. I was all happy on Monday due to being told how much my annual bonus will be, got home to show off my letter to my husband, only for him to show me his bank account online - where his inheritance has arrived! So totally outclassed by that (although I 'win' because I still have a mum and haven't had seven months of faffing about with solicitors)

In my lesson we tried the Carol, for some light relief blush.gif although I share lessons with a friend who's sort of between Grade 4 and 5, so my teacher said we'd do the Carol first, then think about the Romance and Forlana, then possibly the Prelude. It looks very hard! blink.gif laugh.gif

Prob an MSc in Bioinformatics.

Thanks to a recent inheritance, we are debt-free-other-than-mortgage and the household running costs have dropped so much that I could half my income with no real impact.
I'm likely being made redundant later this year, which will come with a substantial wodge of money - well over half my annual pay, so I could use that as "salary" and pay for course fees for a year without too much concern.
My OU degree (humanities with classical studies) finishes June 2011 - so I'd be looking at a 2011 academic year start (oh, my original degree was in biology and I'm currently a programmer...so it's not a total departure to go to bioinformatics).

It's just pondering at the moment but basically it's financially viable in a way it would never have been since I left university (and indeed, probably wasn't even that viable then!)
