I assume you've looked an have places in mind? smile.gif

Erm, well, sort of cheating and looking local to where I currently live at the moment...trying to find out residence requirements to see if I could get away without having to move anywhere (thing is, if I were not working, my husband would have to be working, and his work is very much tied to where we currently live [20+ year client base built up])

Anyway, what has also made me happy today is the discovery that a redundancy lump sum is apparently tax free (up to a certain threashold, which I won't meet). But this means that what I will actually get on redundancy will be over 1 year's current take-home pay, and pretty much my running-the-house contribution for nearly 2 years! So it makes it all a lot more relaxing. It's just nice to know that as and when (and I suppose, technically, if) it happens, I won't be in desperate urgent need of a new job, any job I do get can pay me a lot less, and I can consider things like going back to studying.

Not that my husband knows anything about the studying idea yet which is probably a bit naughty of me. But I want to work out how I feel about it before I complicate things with how other people think about it.
Babybird2
Thanks all. Of course I said yes laugh.gif And no, he didn't get down on one knee tongue.gif He just sat down on the sofa!! laugh.gif

Running an interesting session with students doing a BMus in Commercial Music Performance (most of whom do not read music)...a tad out of my comfort zone but after a few games of Doggie, Doggie I got them reading rhythm cards in canon and singing a major triad in solfa and with handsigns...!!

What sort of PG study, Maizie? unsure.gif
Prob an MSc in Bioinformatics.

Thanks to a recent inheritance, we are debt-free-other-than-mortgage and the household running costs have dropped so much that I could half my income with no real impact.
I'm likely being made redundant later this year, which will come with a substantial wodge of money - well over half my annual pay, so I could use that as "salary" and pay for course fees for a year without too much concern.
My OU degree (humanities with classical studies) finishes June 2011 - so I'd be looking at a 2011 academic year start (oh, my original degree was in biology and I'm currently a programmer...so it's not a total departure to go to bioinformatics).

It's just pondering at the moment but basically it's financially viable in a way it would never have been since I left university (and indeed, probably wasn't even that viable then!)

I'a great believer in the fact that if the time is ripe, everything will fall into place - it sounds ripe for you. Go for it!
