We managed to get Kate 3 lots of work experience this summer hols. She wants to be a Veterinary Nurse, and do the degree. We have her in a town vets for a week, a town/country vets for a week, and then the farm we regularly stay at have agreed to having her for a few days whilst we are on holiday there, and they are asking their country vet to have her for a couple of days. She should have a broad outlook on the different types of practices after all this, and to be sure before she starts the college course in the autumn. smile.gif Plus have 4 references for Uni.

Sounds good! smile.gif It's always useful to gain experience in the field before committing to a course.

My son has wanted to teach since he was about 10, and now has lots of experience in schools. It's only recently that he's wondered whether after all a career in industry might appeal, and I'm hoping the internship will help him decide. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that Maths graduates can command quite a high salary in industry, and teachers are not all that well paid by comparison!

We were discussing the London marathon in the pub the other weekend and I discovered that

a) the clarinettest in our jazz group used to run marathons seriously, never London but Paris and New York
b) he once came 17th in the Paris marathon
c) his time was 2.5 hours!!

I was very impressed. This was about 25 years ago and he reckons he'd struggle to come in under 5 hours these days. If he could run that is, knee surgery has pretty much ruled it out.

Last week, Thursday - Saturday I was providing accompaniments for singers at the local Festival.

Monday was Sixth Form Supervision all day, simultaneously working out and writing out solutions to some Practice Papers for Further Pure 2 for which the Maths Dept didn't have any mark schemes.

Tuesday: period 1 teaching an emergency lesson on Polar Coordinates, so that Y13 could finish the syllabus before study leave, period 2 playing through my Diploma programme in the school hall, period 3 attending an invigilators' meeting in preparation for exams starting in earnest next week, period 4 re-recording an AS singing recital.

Wednesday: invigilating for 3.5 hours(!): two maths papers and an English paper for Y9, to help with setting for GCSE sets.

Glad to be at home today! biggrin.gif

Yesterday - a very good concert accompanying a choir at Sewerby Hall. 60+ in the audience. My solo was Beethoven's 'Farewell to the piano' which they liked so much they asked for a piano solo encore by Chopin! played them the Opus 69/1 waltz - it was the only Chopin piece I could remember without the music. wink.gif

Hearing that Vasily Petrenko, chief conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, won best male artist at the Classical BRITS last night. Since I took the plunge and joined their choir at the end of last year I've been incredibly priviliged to work with him both at rehearsal and in two concerts. Found him incredibly inspiring and motivating, and learned an enormous amount in a very short time at rehearsal.

Huge congrats, Vasily! hurrah.gif
