Lang Lang's concert at the RAH tonight ....

So you're going to get your fix of Albeniz then (Iberia Bk1)? smile.gif

My erstwhile colleague and Head of Music at the school in which I work, thought he'd have a go at one of the Fellowship Diplomas and decided that if he prepared for it he'd offer Schumann's G minor Sonata and .... Prokofiev's Sonata No.7 (on tonight's programme).

The third movement especially, goes at some lick and will probably allow Lang Lang to look somewhat manic as he plays it.

When my colleague's wife heard him play through that last movement she said, "Oh, you're not going to be playing that everyday for nine months, are you!?" mad.gif

He never sat that diploma! sad.gif biggrin.gif

Don't let that anecdote put you off though; I'm sure LL's rendition will be exciting, to say the least.

It is really strange but I've actually never been able to listen to him properly yet. Everytime I've seen him on TV I've been so mesmorized laugh.gif (or in fits of laughter more like it!! blush.gif ) by his performance that I haven't been able to concentrate on the music itself!!!
For that reason I'm looking forward to seeing live tonight so I can make up my mind as to whether I enjoy listening to him or not!

Fairly well, although I had to guess one question that we hadn't learnt (human evolution, convergent or divergent?) and later found I'd got it wrong. Oh well.

One of my friends also had to do Biology in the morning then PE in the afternoon, and said they were both terrible! I think she's exaggerating though.

How did yours go? Remind me are you Year 10 or Year 11 re-taking?

I think we may be doing different exam syllabuses-I'm in year eleven and was doing the AQA B3 exam paper, but the school is highly pushy and largely regards anything lower than an A* as substandard ( mad.gif ) and so was resitting the B2 paper too, and I don't remember any questions about evolution smile.gif I think they went okay thank you, fingers crossed (although if we are doing the same exam and I missed hte evolution question, perhaps it didn't go as well as I thought! tongue.gif )

I was invigilating this exam but didn't bother looking at the exam paper this time around, so couldn't verify whether or not there had been a question on evolution. I always think the papers ought to be 30 minutes long rather than the 45 minutes; that seems inordinately long for the content; same for Chemistry and Physics papers too, especially the modular multiple-choice papers taken earlier in the cycle.

When we took the 1a and 1b multiple choice papers, I don't think there was a single person in the exam took longer than twenty five minutes to do the paper and thoroughly check their answers. I tend to take about thirty to thirty five minutes in the 2 and 3 papers, but again, I know many people who do it much faster than this.

Must be a different board (mine is OCR I think?) - ours was 40 minutes, covering B1, B2 and B3 modules. Only takes 25-30 minutes though. Ours aren't multiple-choice, and although we have some tick-the-correct-box questions, they've recently introduced 'longer-answer' questions worth 3 or 4 marks where you basically write 3 points about the subject in a mini paragraph. unsure.gif

About the pushy school thing - we did Unit 2 of Maths in March, but over half of the Year 11s were re-sitting (the school pays for one resit), some because they'd got one mark off A* blink.gif Quite a few people in my set were told they basically have to re-take, because they 'only' got A. It makes sense I suppose, because you can't resit Unit 3 and that's worth much more.

Ahh fair enough smile.gif the issue I have with the school entering for resits is that it really is unnecessary-I got A*'s in my biology and maths modules, and yet I'm resitting both as they weren't "high enough" blink.gif
