Just bought a ticket to hear Michael Collins, Brett Dean and Huw Watkins in a concert on July 9th - part of the Cheltenham International Music Festival:

Schumann: Marchenbilder Op.113
Schumann: Fantasiestucke Op.73
Schumann: Marchenerzahlungen Op.132
Kurtag: Homage a Robert Schumann Op.15d
Kurtag: Jelek Op.5
Brahms: Clarinet Sonata No.1 Op.120

Sounds super - hope you enjoy it. smile.gif

Whats made me happy today? Firstly, it was our 34th wedding anniversary wub.gif Secondly, we've been to the most lovely concert in a local church: Bach Mass in G minor and lots of Telemann, including the German Magnificat, and the concerto for recorder and bassoon. The latter was played by a 14 year old on recorder and a 15 year old bassoonist, and they were fantastic! It's been a really happy day. smile.gif

It was last evening, we (4 part a capella group) sang at a joint concert with a brass quintet. Introduced some new songs which went down very well, I performed "Silent Worship" as a solo, and the finale was "Sing a Song of Sixpence" with the brass ensemble accompanying. The audience loved it and wanted it again! chorale.gif

Having a 'taster session' on two instruments, trumpet and violin. Both hard to play, but I definitely want to learn one or the other come September. Now I just have to choose.... huh.gif

Violin. wub.gif

It's also great for developing a good ear, which would enhance your clari and bassoon. smile.gif

Yes, I know...I really need to develop my aural skills. wacko.gif
The thing is, violin would help with noticing which notes are wrong, and whether they are sharp or flat, and correcting them. Trumpet would probably help with pitching notes in the first place - getting the right harmonic, whereas it's less obvious if the notes are slightly wrong. I'm not that good at singing and I honestly don't know whether I have the problem with pitching notes or knowing if they're right or wrong.

Perhaps I should take singing lessons laugh.gif

I have always wanted to be able to play folk fiddle, but I've also wanted to learn trumpet for quite a while now. huh.gif

Last year I accessed the Blackwell's Bookshop website and ordered copies of '371 Harmonized Chorales and 69 Chorale Melodies' together with a book 'Bach Chorale Harmonization and Instrumental Counterpoint'.

Yes indeed. His musical punctuation was one of his trademark acts - no doubt on YouTube somewhere, for those who never heard it. Didn't he also play in the style of different composers? - similar to Joseph Cooper, but Danish!

Didn't know Mozart wrote a duet Laudamus Te. I know he wrote a pretty tricky solo one for Mrs. Mozart to sing. And I'm seriously impressed if either of your year 7 girls is doing that, given that I worked on it as part of a Fellowship programme.

My Mum, aged 90, has finally been admitted to a nursing home this morning. smile.gif The poor lamb has been in hospital since April, but has spent the last three weeks waiting for a place to be found for her so that she could be discharged. She's not fit to go home yet but doesn't need hospital treatment now.

We are really hoping that Mum will start to do more for herself again now she's out of the hospital, rather than just lying in bed all day. In February she was living on her own with carers coming in and managing fine, but following a series of urinary infections she's become more and more sessile in hospital. I just wish I lived nearer so that I could visit more often (she's in a Home near Rotherham).
