A really unexpected gift (of flowers and some toiletries) from a casual friend (as in we don't tend to socialise much together but talk and get on at well when we end up in the same place - usually because our kids are doing something in common). She's a lovely lady and obviously thinks a lot of me from what she put on the gift tag

I'd recommend tapping your way through the rhythms away from the piano. Helps me grasp anything a bit unusual quite quickly

It was yesterday, but I got back really late: a wonderful concert for our retiring headteacher, with lots of ex-students (she's been head for 8 years) coming back to do solos. The Jazz Band carried on playing (outside) until it was too dark to see the music properly - we'd already resorted to using someone's phone to light up the page...

@ DawnF....... the baldy one is a "double rex" which means two normal rex coated rats bread together create "Double rex" babies. the fur thins and falls out before they are a few months old makeing them all naked. lol there are different kinds of hailess rats but my boy is a double rex

Leaving my job!

This is a scary happy as Im now unemployed but as the handful of you who know me in person can testify it is a real relief.

How lovely and even more so because so unexpected.

And my happy today?

Just got back from an instrumental concert at the local primary and heard some really impressive playing.
Some lovely moments from:
beginners taking their first tentative steps to very accomplished performances both solo and ensemble. Seeing a reluctant performer take her first solo performance (some of you met her at York playday 2009) and she did sooo well - Space age sonatina - a new one on me but I liked it.
The girl who lost it in her piano solo and struggled to pull it back but after an uncomfortable break she pulled the ending off and the applause was so warm... etc etc etc.
And a few stars in the making...?

My "happy" today - and look away all you rat lovers - was catching a couple of rats in my traps this morning. Haven't been too successful recently.

My darling daughter has almost mastered G major scale on the piano, and she particularly likes the accidental which she delights in calling "F shark" and then doing a shark attack on my leg.

Haha - whatever helps her to learn! When I was little my parents told me that the semibreve middle C was the London Undergound symbol and that's how to remember it.

I bet, I bet you can't take that smile off your face. I remember when mine came and I just couldn't wait to have a go on it. However, I stood back and let my husband have a go first and give his seal of approval. My piano teacher came round to teach me in my house for the first time, she just couldn't wait to come and have a go.

Enjoy your piano, hope that you have put aside other things today so you can just play!
