My youth choir started tonight - 12 turned up, did really well, all nervous to begin with, of course...
Got them singing arpeggios on yi yi yi and wow what a difference in the volume! Thye looked os shocked, it was really funny! They worked really hard and I had them singing in 3 parts by the end of it.
Think they enjoyed it, said they did and that they would come back next week...hopefully with their friends lol
A great start!

Well done, Dawn! That sounds wonderful. Young people are brilliant to work with, because they listen and remember - it's so much easier than with adults, who think they know it when they don't! biggrin.gif

Noooooooooo smile.gif DawnF has 'persuaded' me to go to her band practice tonight, I'm a little bit unsure.gif but have been assured it will be fine smile.gif

Oh ok we're not really smile.gif And you will be fine. I'm sure you'll not read this till afterwards now though....

I thought that might be it! smile.gif

Have lots of fun both and let us know how it was, Louise! At least (unlike my experience at the weekend!) you won't be the only clarinet!!! biggrin.gif

Yesterdays band practice with a proper band smile.gif It was really good fun, not too scary and yes there were times when fingers just could not keep up (Clarinet Candy ohmy.gif ) but I kept up on paper and followed the lot smile.gif Very happy about that biggrin.gif Thanks Dawn and the rest of the lovely people in the band for making me so welcome, see you next week. smile.gif

The nice men have returned to finish the roofline work they started yesterday. The back of the house looks so much better and the jackdaws don't stand a chance of breaking in now.

I have just had my first piano lesson with my new teacher Orsolya Szabó. She is an absolute delight. She reminds me of my first piano teacher, who I adored.

She feels the deep emotion of the music, and knows how to explain that to me in a way that I can understand and use to interpret new pieces.

Ah, joy. Deep, deep joy.

A wonderful opening concert for the Beverley Chamber Music Festival, by the Cropper/Welsh/Roscoe Trio. It culminated in a magnificent, and very moving, account of Tchaikovsky's Piano Trio in A minor, Op. 50. A rarely heard work. Six more concerts, plus masterclasses, to go before Sunday. smile.gif

What will make me happy is listening to the first programme in a new series of In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg, later this morning at 9.00 am on Radio 4. Why?

.... because the topic discussed will be IMAGINARY NUMBERS ! yay.gif

I did, although I didn't much learn anything new to me, apart from the connection with primes of the form (4n+1). Still, I always tune in to In Our Time, whatever the topic - it gives the brain a good workout! biggrin.gif

The trouble with imaginary numbers is that they are so selfish - it is just "i, i, i " all the time! rolleyes.gif
