Just got in from my recital and listened back to Piangero and it's fab! Yes, a couple of sticky spots, but overall I'm just so happy that I got through without any major traumas.....now waiting to hear the other one which felt even better.

AND I ENJOYED IT!!!!

Yesterday, more than today...Van Eyck!

Jan/Feb time, we started looking at stuff from the TG G6 lists. One of the first we looked at was Fantasia en Echo. Which was horrendously difficult, and I would never pick it for my exam because I couldn't do justice to such a wonderful and (to my ears) well-known piece.

Only at my lesson last week, it appears it now will be my list C choice for the exam smile.gif

And so last night I reluctantly decided to blow the cobwebs off of it. And you know what? It's do-able. It's not easy, it won't be ready in a fortnight, but I actually think I can get there with it. Which made me very happy indeed.

(So happy I turned over a couple of pages and then ruined Engels Nachtigaeltje (the English nightingale), but that's OK, that's on TG G7 / AB G8 so I am allowed to play that dreadfully. I just hope that "Wat Zalmen op den Avond doen" is still on the TG G8, as and when wub.gif )

Oh, and this morning I managed to persuade my very ill rat White to eat something! I know she is eating a bit, but not very much, so I opened up a tin of really swish cat food and gave her spoonful, and she pigged it down. Well, a little bit of it. But at least she has eaten something, which is pretty good. Why two and a bit weeks on antibiotics has made no difference to her health is a bit more puzzling, but at least she is eating smile.gif

Scales seem to be different, all of a sudden. Instead of thinking about what note comes next, I'm thinking about what sound comes next, and my fingers are getting it right a scary proportion of the time. I am assuming this is a Good Thing.

If some speed could come along with it, that'd be nice.

And my husband seems to be thoroughly unsurprised that I am going to Greenwich - he said that it's one day a year, so of course I should go. And I said I wouldn't spend much money, but then added even if I do, it's my money so it's all OK, and he agreed.

JUST ABOVE AVERAGE ON MY PHYSICS MIDTERM! biggrin.gif

This probably seems like an overreaction, but this is a legendarily difficult class (as in, a faculty member at another top university recognized it as "death mechanics") and I'm one of ~5 first-year students taking it (it's a second-year class). So I'm happy smile.gif

Speaking as a non-piano playing forumite (at the moment tongue.gif ) it looks ok and didn't sound too bad when I plonked a couple of notes. Will have to investigate it further................... smile.gif Was very impressed with how my flute sounded in that room though smile.gif

One and a half years old they reckon. She was there a bit longer than most as she was found pregnant and gave birth in the shelter and they had to keep her until her kittens were old enough to go too. The volunteer told me that she didn't seem to like the kittens very much and probably was looking forward to having her own space.

Sounds a very similar background to my kitty. I hope she settles as fast as mine - but brings less presents, the vermin of the area have certainly met their match.

I got an email from an OU tutor (not my own, but for the course I am doing), who said that a post I had made on the forum was "one of the most sensible things I've seen a student say" and asked if he could use it in his teaching!
After I looked up what I'd said that was so profound, I replied that of course he could smile.gif

Oh, and I'm going to Greenwich today biggrin.gif

PS Love the cat stories...my cat went in to the rescue with 'her mum and her mum's latest litter' - it was only when we got her home and had a few sleepless nights [because of her shouting at being left alone] did we realise that she'd always had cat company before. But she settled before I could retrieve her mother or a half-sibling, and now I can't imagine she would ever let another cat in the house (she barely lets them in the garden)
corenfa
Cat still mostly in hiding.. it's as though I don't have a cat, I have a room with a bowl of catfood and a water dish and the levels of those move up and down on their own.

However she did poke her head out when I was sitting on the floor with the laptop. Suspicious creature - I picked the one who reminded me of me, a bit hissy in the shelter but guardedly friendly when she feels like it. Terrible, I know

If she gets lonely I'll get her a friend from the same shelter in a few months.
CJB
I didn't pick mine - she picked me. Offered my hand for her to sniff and she wrapped herself round my arm.

At least yours is eating and drinking - I'm sure she'll come out of her shell soon. One of my friends took in a rescue cat who hid in a cupboard for about 2 weeks but now happily runs all over the place.

My other half, who went with me, made the point when I couldn't decide, that it might be an idea to take one of the more "difficult" ones (as long as it didn't behave like it was possessed) since I'm an "experienced" cat person. It was a good point, I've had cats before so the idea of one hiding under a cupboard for days doesn't bother me whereas someone who hadn't might be alarmed and want to take it back.

She likes her food, which is a good sign, though I will have to be careful not to overfeed - she was a stray and is obviously used to eating anything in sight as she doesn't know when the next meal will be.

The trouble is:
- small flats, no garden - doesn't stop a lot of people but I don't like it
- no catteries/suitable cat sitters as I like to be able to be able to travel and it would be difficult to take a cat with us.

Thanks for reminding me of the word serendipity - I was trying to think of it all yesterday!

Indeed - the first is workable if the cat's temperament is right; my other half's cat hates going outside even though there is a garden and catflap. To her, the outside is to be appreciated from the inside. The second isn't though sad.gif
