It was rather choppy, but thankfully I am used to it. The crew seem much more sympathetic to their passengers feeilings than they did in years gone by. Indeed, in the days of the old Ben my Chree I am sure they took positive delight in their passengers discomfort.

On one occasion, when it was equally choppy, I remember hearing a Tannoy announcement (in very broad Scouse) about two hours out of Douglas, to the effect that 'anyone still wishing to purchase fresh Manx kippers should make their way to the Pursers office'. ill.gif

I manage to deal with a customers problem, which should've been dealt with after Christmas. I also got one of my supervisors to finish dealing with it, as I think it was a little bit out of my job description. All she wanted was some money putting back on her store card for some items she wanted to return after Christmas, and everyone who she spoke to said "No, sorry we can't help you."

At least now the problem has been resolved, and the customer went home happy after about a 10 week wait. biggrin.gif

I have spent too much time being stressed and overwhelmed this past week, but now I'm going to reflect on the good things:

1. It's sunny and above 40 degrees!
2. I decided on a whim to see if I could still play my diploma pieces this morning - and I (mostly) could! All but one piece (the shortest piece - only three minutes) was still memorized, obviously not "under my fingers" like it was when I took the exam, but I could get through it. I'm pleasantly surprised since I haven't touched the pieces in nearly three months...
3. My problem sets are really interesting and enjoyable to do when I'm not thinking about how difficult they are, and how tired I am, and how long they will take me, which I am NOT going to think about anymore!

Here's to being positive! yay.gif

Good guess Tsax tongue.gif My American brain thinks in Farenheit - sorry about that! That would translate to about 5 degrees C, which is positively balmy for this time of year around here... It occasionally gets up to 40 degrees C in summer here, but not often and I wouldn't be happy about it! I think we do generally have a wider temperature range here though - our "normal" weather ranges between -5 in winter to 35+ in summer.

... and a wider range probably even within a single day. One day in Boston it went from 30 degrees (translated to Celsius for the benefit of the audience smile.gif ) at noon to 15 degrees at 2pm. It was a sunny summer day, then this odd cold wind started blowing and before we knew it, clouds & rain. Is that Boston Lincolnshire or Boston USA?

Temperatures here in the UK tend to be influenced and stabilised by the sea which surrounds us, and especially by the warm Atlantic Gulf Stream. Temperatures in the middle of a large land mass tend to fluctuate much more wildly, as can be seen by high summer / mid winter temperatures on the continent when compared with temperatures here in the UK. Likewise the highest and lowest temperatures in the UK are usually recorded well away from the sea.

Having said that, onshore breezes from the North Sea can easily depress summer temperatures by 10 or 15 degrees C within a mile or so of the coast.
