Now I can move in my own cupboards and piano. It will cost me a fortune but anything is better than being treated like a doormat. I have worked for them for nineteen years, Seventeen were happy. The last two, since a new person and a reorganisation came on the scene have been absolutely awful. It's almost over! That made me really happy today.

Great to read that!

Small world, this music one!

It was just thinking about two small worlds yesterday!

On Facebook I am friends with two authors - they co-write, and are probably my favourite fiction authors. Because I am friends with both of them, it suggests that I may know people who also know them both. Now, an awful lot of these are fans like me, but every so often FB will suggest that I know some well-known sci-fi writer or other. It always makes me laugh.

And then, similarly, because I am friends with some forumites, it suggests me friends from that direction. Mostly it is other forumites (the other day, for example, it suggested I might know somebody named Cyrilla!)...but occasionally it is a Name in the recorder-world. And that always makes me grin too smile.gif

That sort of thing makes me smile as well. I have a policy of only adding people I know properly (ie face to face or after so much on line interaction I feel I know them face to face) to FB I'm often surprised by it's suggestions. Though with some of the folks from here my initial thought is 'who?'

LinkedIn is funny in this respect too! A friend (who more than once seemed to have a job available that he thought I could do - til he found out I was the wrong sort of programmer) persuaded me to join but I haven't bothered with it much. So I don't have many connections for it to suggest who else I might know. So it takes a guess and seems to think I know anyone who has ever studied at the Open University rolleyes.gif

I've just read a most marvellous book, Nauticus in Scotland. This is a book written by a man in 1882 who undertook a 2400+ mile tour of Scotland by tricycle.

I am so so so so happy to discover that he also undertook a 1400+ mile tour of England on his tricycle, and I shall be ordering up that book rather soon I think smile.gif

I'd quite fancy a go on the tricycle as well! It's one of these beasties (without the Victorian lady installed):

hehe, thanks.. Thus far, I have the cat sitting on the balcony wall enjoying the sun, interspersed with requests for food (nice try); and Gardener's Question Time on the radio. The only gardening skill I have is raising weeds, but today I have learnt that if you want to use woad to make dye, you have to ferment it and wee on it.

Time to refill the tea.. Piano a bit later.

I doubt it ever will! The reason it was even on GQT at all was that a lady said that she wanted to plant traditional dye plants to dye the wool that she spins (blimey, she really must be into this self-sufficiency thing), and she asked for some tips on how to grow them. The panelist said that she might want to not tell her neighbours what she was up to, as kings & queens used to ban woad fermentation from taking place near any highways that they might be travelling near, because it stank so badly.

Having just looked it up - apparently, wee was involved in a lot of traditional dyeing until they discovered other mordants (I think that's the stuff that sets the dye in the cloth).

A perfect day, really. smile.gif
Began with a lie-in; then packed a picnic and en route to destination called in to old dad and OH fixed up his digi-box thingy.

Drove to cliff-top bird reserve and walked along the headland path in gorgeous weather. Ate picnic looking over huge limestone cliffs and down at gannets, herring gulls and kittywakes (sp?)
We carried on to a vast, beautiful, almost deserted beach with perfect sand and no painful pebbles to hobble over. Had a paddle in the clear blue sea and then walked back - about 8 miles altogether.

Watched the Verdi Requiem during dinner, which rounded things off nicely.

'Wee' finds uses in all sorts of processes, even today. biggrin.gif

Church bells are cast in moulds made from a mixture of horse dung, straw and clay. The moulds are baked dry in an oven, and any cracks are filled with a thinned down mix of the above! Apparently, the ureic acid in the horse dung is important to acheive the correct tempering of the alloy used to cast the bells. Having been to Taylor's Bell Foundry in Loughborough to see our new Treble and Second cast I can assure you the smell is something else! ill.gif
