Came out of Early Music Shop down one recorder, but up two more pieces of music and a CD rolleyes.gif

Horrific journey home from there; when it comes time to collect, I'm going to take a day off and have a day in London doing fun stuff, rather than popping in on the way home...

After all the trouble I had it has all come together perfectly and I have a provisional moving in date of 17th December. That date can't come quickly enough.

hurrah.gif I'm so glad that things have worked out for you. smile.gif

I guest led at orchestra tonigt. I enjoyed it but will be very glad to resume my regular seat of 3rd chair next week.

I have not led a section for 18 months now and did not do a very god job, I have got so used to following the person in front and today there was nobody in front of me. tongue.gif

I would like to become leader some day but I don;t hink i am ready yet, it will take a few years more of orchestral experiance to reach what I would consider a good enough level to lead well.

Played my clarinet for the first time in a couple of days due to a sore throat and cold.

Glad you are feeling better today Pixie*Porsche.

I had a 'bad day' yesterday- but was cheered up with a parent ringing up saying their daughter wanted to start clarinet today (sister of a pupil I started a couple of weeks ago!)

I am happy because I managed to fit in some practice before coming to work. I worked on a tricky passage and felt I made really good progress. Just making a small dent in the problem and suddenly it seems much less daunting.

LOL indeed...
but I was v pleased as I was sure I could hear the goldcrest and I waited very patiently for it to fly right past my face from one tree to the next. And the coal bird was perhaps more exciting as it's only the second I've ever seen in Hampshire. (OK bird hat going on now, feel free to filter!) In the last couple of months that makes 3 birds that I haven't seen since I was a child in Worcestershire (ok have hardly seen) - a linnet and a yaffle were the other two. And the linnet is a definite not seen for over 30 years bird.

I just love when a pupil who has really struggled and struggled and practised hard suddenly "clicks" with a piece biggrin.gif

I have a pupil, who is a bit of a handful admittedly who plays violin, and they are doing their Grade 1 on 31st of October. They had 2 pieces really well, but just couldn't get the 3rd one at all - loads of the notes were wrong, the rhythm was a mile off, despite being able to tell me all the note names and how to play them and clapping the rhythm perfectly when the violin was not in hand!!

Anyway they turned up yesterday, and it was note perfect, rhythm perfect AND had dynamics!!! So proud that the practice had finally paid off!! Put a smile on their face for the rest of the day biggrin.gif

And put a smile on your face too, I'm sure! smile.gif

I'm happy to be back home after a week in the balmy south-east of England (blimey, it was hot! blink.gif ). It's the school holidays here now, so I can have a much-needed rest from all the difficult things that have been happening recently.

I'm determined to be hopeful! smile.gif

Had a pretty difficult week- with car dying, the passenger window of courtesy car deciding to drop today and stay dropped (so I can't close it), fell out with various family members and very busy teaching week.
This sounds like it should be in the arrrgggghhh thread,
but today I had a good day- I taught ALL day, from 9:30- 3:15 in school, then at home til 8pm and have good lessons with all pupils (even the beginner who has broken her hired clarinet). All had made progressd. I have a new to me pupil at a school I have just started in and she has been struggling (she has a shared lesson with someone who has been playing 1 more year than her!) She had done everything I had asked her at home and had practiced 4 times (was only doing 1 a week) and had made soooo much progress. She was really pleased when I praised her up! That made me and her feel good. My Gr 7 pupil (exam this term) had better melodic minors...... always a good thing- and she got through to the penultimate line without making a mistake (it's hard) ... and this week, 3 of my pupils auditioned for County Wind Band and got in!
When you think about it- there is a lot to be thankful for- I just sometimes forget when swamped by day to day trivia!
louise1712

some very nice words from the conductor (before the rehearsal!)

Yesterday's music lesson. A new Telemann fantasia (number 10) which was...surprisingly approachable. It's getting weird, these things on the G7 list that I'm looking at seem an awful lot less hard than I expected!! And a modern Bruggen exercise full of wobbles and slides smile.gif Which I may explore on YouTube just to see if anyone has had a go - I'm well aware that the quality (in many senses) may be variable!

There's now a two-week break due to half-term (yes, the county only has one week, but my teacher needs to take a week and a half, which means two lessons missing for me) - so I promised to make a start on my scales. I said I'd really try to get the harmonic/melodic destinction Properly In My Head this time (bit of a wobble at G6). My teacher said "Can you sing them?" which I think is just about the funniest thing I've ever heard! rofl.gif rofl.gif rofl.gif
I am getting better with minors in general though, I can at least now hear a minor third and half the battle is hearing which note comes next - if I know what it should sound like, my fingers will go there without me having to think about it.

*makes mental note to put note in calendar to sign up for Hofnote for aural training...*

The hygienists in our area aren't nearly as sadistic as they used to be. A lot of the work is done with a water drill, which is relatively painless. Maybe it won't be as bad as you think - I hope not, anyway. smile.gif

Its not the cleaning with drill attachment , its just that she's a bit overenthusiastic with that sharp point scraping between your teeth and invariably into the gum ! The previous hygienest was much gentler !

I know what you mean. I actually prefer seeing the Dentist than the Hygienist, although I am not a great fan of either. sad.gif

The worst part for me is the Post Mortem that they like to perform when they first get you in the chair, in which the Dentist and assistant communicate in an unknown language, uttering scary words like Lingual, Palatal, and Buccall, (I thought the latter was a shipping area), and then tell you that they want to charge money for inflicting pain on you. mad.gif

A young pupil who worked out (without being talked through it, as I'd expected and planned to do) that if G major has F#, G flat major must have F natural.

We have not done tones and semitones, nor the major scale pattern in detail. I was slightly gobsmacked.

For me - seeing Baz, and meeting Bass Clef, who both came to watch classes at Guildhall today. Also spending a little time with a friend this afternoon - and the lovely, lovely weather.

And I found out that the former primary classmates of the Y10 boy I taught who died had got together and they held a lovely event for him today in a local park - they bought a bench in his memory, planted a tree, and let off lots of green balloons (his favourite colour).
