Just 2 ask does anyone know what qualifications you need to be able to teach music at secondary school level? I've tried looking on the internet but not succeeded in finding a site that actually tells you clearly the different routes into it! Help!?

You'll probably need a degree of some sort in music, like a BA or a BMus, followed by a PGCE (essential for primary or secondary education). However, I'm not sure, don't hold me to this!!!

You can do a BA/Bmus followed by a PGCE (Post-Grad Certificate in Education) which would probably take you four years, or you could do a BEd with your specialist subject being music and get on-the-course training which means you would get more teaching experience in a lesser space of time (3 years).
However, should you decide to leave teaching, some employers don't regard your BEd with the same distinction as a BA.
