Hello all

The title says it all, really..... rolleyes.gif I'm an adult learner who is finally doing something about getting music in my life. So, I've signed up for the OU Music Diploma and am loving it. On the practical side, I've started piano lessons and am progressing s l o w l y ...... as in not even Grade 1 yet.

A bit more about ME, well I'm a postie and I spend my life walking my 2 springer spaniels when I'm not shoving mail through letterboxes. laugh.gif

Also thinking about taking up the clarinet because you can carry it with you.

Looking forward to making some cyber friends.

Welcome Peaches! Glad you are enjoying your music. Hope you find the forums helpful and friendly. Don't worry about slow progress on piano - its a tricky instrument, most people take at least 2 years to get to grade 1 - there is no hurry!

Hi Peaches,
welcome.gif to the forums! I'm glad you're enjoying the OU Music Diploma - I did it a few years ago and got a lot out of it.

You might like to have a look at Viva Piano too, where lots of piano people hang out.

Enjoy!

Hi Peaches, and welcome smile.gif

I started learning the clarinet from scratch as an adult three years, and it's been one of the best things I've ever done. The nice thing about an instrument you can carry with you is that it's more sociable - easier to play with others in bands and ensembles, but then I'm a bit biased! If you need advice, you'll get lots of help in the Woodwind forum if you decide to get one clarinet.gif

Look forward to seeing you around, hope you enjoy it here smile.gif

Oh my... were we twins separated at birth???

I did the OU diploma a few years ago, fantastic course especially the summer school, but beware of the step change about that time when it suddenly gets very complicated, esp if you are new to music, be sure to hang in there!!!

I am also an adult learner...I started the violin from scratch <mumble> years ago now and have just reached the dizzy heights of grade 5, and yes an instrument you can take around with you and play with others is fantastic, the piano must be a lonely occupation at times.

I have also just started learning the piano (lesson no 6 today!). All very difficult right now, but at least it makes a decent sound from day one, not like the violin wacko.gif

I used to work for the Post Office too, but 2 years ago snatched their hand off at a generous EVR package. (Now THAT was a very good decision tongue.gif )

And I used to have a springer spaniel (but now have a larger model of dog - see my pic!!)

Good to see you here, and I can guarantee you will make cyber friends, and round here they do also have the habit of becoming real flesh and blood versions too biggrin.gif
Peaches

Many many thanks for the warm welcome, guys smile.gif I have had a tiptoe around the rest of the forum and feel very 'umble .... there are lot of talented people here. smile.gif

Janexxx - I am thrilled to meet my twin! Your dawg is gorgeous - a lemon pointer, lucky you!

I had heard that the diploma hots up around the halfway mark .... gulp wacko.gif Was actually thinking particularly about the summer school when I thought I'd take up the clarinet - so I could join in something during the week ... will post on viva woodwind, methinks.

Welcome! I agree, piano is a lonely instrument, but I tried the clarinet and couldn't get a sound out of it! I'm hankering after a violin...

Hi Peaches!
Love your signature smile.gif - the OU course sounds pretty exciting! I agree, lots of v talented people here... but lots of people who have come to music late and achieved loads... so it's quite an inspiring place to be.
