Hi all,

I was looking though the music I have the other day to find that most of it is Baroque... which I really like.

I'm looking to play something new, and am wondering what you favourites are. I play stuff to aroung Grade 8 standard, though having never taken exams I've not played a huge range of styles, and only play what I think I might like! Have you any favourite music collections?

I have also got the most wonderful reed at the moment for playing the really low notes, and would love to play something using that really deep rich sound. Any ideas?

Look forward to hearing from you all....

I don't play oboe, but I have accompanied three 20th century works that I liked very much: the sonata for oboe and piano by Hindemith, the one by Poulenc and the Three Light(?) Pieces by Franz Reizenstein.

The Poulenc was written shortly after the death of Prokofiev and is rather fierce, with big contrasts of speed. It needs a Grade 8 standard pianist. I recall the Reizenstein being easier.

Have a look for music by Alan Richardson, who was the husband of a famous English oboist called Janet Craxton. He wrote some very attractive pieces for oboe. I'm afraid I can't remember any titles but I enjoyed accompanying some of them in the past.

Thanks!

It seems that oboe players are a bit thin on the ground round here.... anyone else?

Hi Emma! What about Benjamin Britten's Six Metamorphoses after Ovid? They cover a huge range of styles and they are on the grade 8 syllabus and they are really really nice to play (though quite tricky!) But I think they come into the category of not baroque - just . . .

How about 'Theme and Variations' by Hummel ??

Not exactly new, but definitely post-baroque smile.gif
