I am a beginning alto saxophone player and I am wondering what would be the best brand reed to use. I use a number 2 reed and I would like to find the best brand reeds I can and maybe get a box of them. I would appreciate any opinions about good brands of reeds.

I'd experiment if I was you with a few types. It really depends what type of sound you are looking for - jazzy, classical etc I've tried various types of reed - Hemke, Vandoren, Plasticover and Rico Royal. I found that on my alto a Hemke 3 1/2 was best and on my soprano a 2 1/2 Rico Royal or Plasticover. It is also very dependent on your mouthpiece and ligature. Good luck!

Also, if you get a box of them, you may only get a few that you like out of them, they arnt all the same!
