Right, here's what we've got to offer:

One tenor sax
One alto sax
One soprano sax
One clarinet
Two piano players
One duck
One elephant
One pig
One frog
One owl

We also have a zither, but neither of us knows how to play it!

biggrin.gif

I have an idea of the standard you require - there'll be parts for all the single reeds you mention. smile.gif

Frogs may be included. I own three and also a crocodile and a pig that work on similar principles. Is the zither a real one rather than an autoharp?

The zither's a real one, we bought it in East Germany. It may not be a particularly good quality one. It has sheets of paper that you put under the strings to help you play tunes! I'm not too sure where it is, but could dig it out. However, I'm not too sure I will be able to fit it in the car with everything else.

The frog and the pig are the ones with sticks and ridged backs, and the rest of the creatures are ones that you blow. I can bring them all, then I'll be able to play something.

Hi guys,
Bad news I'm afraid. I can't make the concert after all. My friend is coming over from the States and that's the only weekend she can make it up to see me. I'm gutted that the two things have coincided but there's nothing she can do to change it. musicMakers.gif argh.gif

So a very big sorry to all you birds and other animals.

Next year. wink.gif

Hello pianists! wave.gif

There are quite a few pianists planning to come to Leeds this year - does anybody want to play a duet? Please email/PM me if you want me to put you in touch with another pianist to do a duet with. If you need your duet partner to be a certain level, please say when you contact me, and also if you already have suitable music.

What sort of size of 'cast list' do you have for Leeds skylark? I know applications haven't formally opened, I was just wondering how much interest you've had so far...

I'm confused - on the form I've put my son down for the Swing band playing sax, then noticed that Barry had put in this thread that it was going to be for clarinets only. On the form it says clarinet or sax.

Also, the piano piece I would like to play is a Grade 4 piece called "Air" by Hook. It has repeats, but in the exam you are not expected to play them - if I play it as a solo, should I play the repeats, in which case it will last 3 minutes, or should I leave them out?

Play the repeats if you think it makes for a better performance piece.

The swing ensemble is open to any clarinet or sax player. If anyone plays both instruments, it would be helpful to give Barry some flexibility to enable him to arrange a good balance of instruments.

By all means play the repeats if you'd like to smile.gif Or leave them out if you want to treat it as a run-through for your exam. It's entirely your choice smile.gif If by leaving them out, you're left with a piece that's only, say, 1.5 mins long, by all means play another short piece to fill your 3 min slot if you'd like to.

Sorry, my fault, the swing band is open to all clarinet/sax players. smile.gif

I've received an application form from a cellist who is currently G3 working on G4 for July. Would anyone like to play either a duet with her, or get together with other strings for a trio/quartet? Please either post, email or PM if you're interested, and if so, could you please let me know if you have suitable music or not - it may be possible to provide some if you don't already have any smile.gif

A lot of string players have said they're coming but haven't yet sent their forms in - as soon as I get them in, I can put people in touch with each other to play in some more small ensembles if they haven't already sorted out an ensemble themselves smile.gif

Strings players - please do get your forms sent in, otherwise clari/sax will rule, yay! biggrin.gif

Is it OK for me to join the Kazoo orchestra with my frog, even though I'm a "beginner" at it (I haven't even taken Grade 1 Frog yet!)

Also, would it be possible to borrow a percussion instrument so that I might join the grand finale please? Again I'm "beginner" level, my percussion CV shows only two Woodford Green concerts, nothing else!

Yes do bring your frog, I'm bringing my frog too! But sometimes he burps instead of croaks ph34r.gif

I think probably the best thing to do is for you and anybody else who would like to take part in the finale by playing percussion would be to put down on your form that you'd like to borrow an instrument if possible - one or two forum members have already volunteered to lend some instruments but it would be helpful to have it on the forms so that nobody gets missed out smile.gif

Can anyone answer a question I've got about copyright please...

Is it legal to photocopy/scan some music at a public library and then distribute it to other members of an ensemble to play at the concert? Does it make a difference that the concert is taking place at an educational establishment?
Chris H
In answer to your question, Skylark, I would say no. The Musical Publisher's Code of fair practice states that, for educational uses, "Bona fide students or teachers, whether they are in an educational establishment or not, may without application to the copyright owner make copies of short excerpts of musical works provided that they are for study only (not for performance). Copying whole movements or whole works is expressly forbidden under this permission."
oldnotes
Re. copyright. I could be wrong but, I thought that where one already posesses the original music (e.g. say, a Mozart album published in the early 1900's) then it is permissible to photocopy, as long as it is for 'private' performance. Having said that I've been to a number of professional concerts where some members of the ensemble were using photocopies.

If anyone else wants swing band parts in advance, now is the time to let me know! biggrin.gif
